Belonging to a Commonwealth country, the Royal Canadian Mint's coins feature the likeness, also called "effigy," of the reigning monarch. Since 1953, the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has been featured on the obverse of each coin, with different versions introduced throughout her 70-year reign. The effigy seen on the Opulence collection coins was introduced in 2003 and was designed by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt.
