Here’s a closer look at one of our custom marathon medal projects.

What makes this design interesting is that it isn’t only a traditional medal. The front includes a removable magnetic piece that can be used as a fridge magnet, together with a detailed pure copper commemorative coin.

The medal itself uses deep relief on both sides, so the artwork has real dimension rather than a flat appearance.

For us, this is the kind of project where good manufacturing matters just as much as good artwork — relief height, small details, metal edges and the way each component fits together all affect the final result.

For this Taekwondo project, the shield shape, large enamel areas, raised lettering and martial arts artwork all had to work together during production.
So before making the mold, we checked the artwork and 3D structure carefully.

After approval, our team moved through casting, polishing, plating, hand-filled soft enamel and final QC.

Custom Hinged Marathon Medal with Moving Details
This one has much more going on than a standard race medal.

The two decorative metal doors are connected with hinges and can open outward to reveal the butterfly design inside. The outer panels use detailed openwork, while several small metal bells hang underneath and move freely.

For a structure like this, the appearance is only part of the job. The hinge position, spacing between components, metal thickness and overall balance all need to work together.

It’s a good example of how a custom marathon medal can become a real keepsake instead of just another event giveaway.

Need Custom Tournament Medals Without Losing Control of the Budget?
Custom medals do not need unnecessary processes to look distinctive.

For this Ohio volleyball tournament project, we used one mold for both the gold and silver versions. A practical 3 mm thickness, soft enamel colors and an integrated ribbon opening helped control production costs while keeping the design fully customized.

Need Custom Medals Without Losing the Details in Your Design?
Detailed race artwork often looks great on a screen but becomes difficult to reproduce on a small metal medal.

For this 10K and fun run project, the original design included several runners, facial details, clothing, lettering, boxing gloves and multiple color areas.

Our team adjusted the artwork before production. We widened narrow lines, separated the enamel colors with raised metal borders and checked the relief through a 3D mold preview.

This allowed us to preserve the main identity of the design while making it suitable for bulk manufacturing.

We produced 150 pieces for the original order. After delivery, the customer returned for another 70 medals.

What Happens After a Custom Medal Design Is Approved?
Once the customer approved this football medal design, the real factory work began.

The zinc alloy was die-cast into the custom crest shape. Each medal was polished, plated in bright gold and filled with black, white and yellow enamel. The backs received a sand-textured finish with the words “YOU LEGEND,” and the finished medals were assembled with custom printed ribbons.

Before packing, our team checked the enamel, plating, edges, lettering, ribbon direction and stitching.

The full order of 250 medals was then shipped by air to the UK.

This project shows the difference between simply displaying a medal and showing how it was actually made.

How We Produced These Antique Nickel Sports Medals
These custom medals were made for a swimming and running event in Tsarevo, Bulgaria.

The medal body was die-cast from zinc alloy using a custom mold. After deburring and polishing, each piece received antique nickel plating.

The darker recessed areas created depth, while the raised metal edges remained visible.

Blue soft enamel was added to the sports symbol and Cyrillic lettering. The irregular blue and yellow brush details were added through UV printing.

A custom heat-transfer ribbon completed the medal.

Before the order shipped, we sent the customer:

• The final production drawing
• Mold views
• A real ribbon sample
• A finished medal photo
• Production progress updates

The customer approved every important step and confirmed that the final order arrived perfectly.

Real Project: Custom Pickleball Tournament Medals for PIKL Cup 2026
Here is a real custom medal project we completed for the PIKL Cup Summer Showdown 2026.

The customer supplied a bold graffiti-style event logo. Our job was to convert the design into a production-ready metal structure without losing the original energy of the artwork.

Several narrow gaps and brush-style edges needed small technical adjustments before mold engraving. Once the artwork was approved, we created the custom steel mold and produced the medals in gold, silver and red copper finishes.
