After graduating, Pierre-Henri spent a year working the vineyards at famed Domaine de Montille in Volnay before selling oak barrels for one of France’s most highly regarded coopers. This move led him into the cellars of some of the world’s most prominent wine growers; he saw up-close the dedication, passion and skill of lauded vignerons including Philippe Alliet in Chinon, Domaine de la Romanee Conti in Burgundy and Jean-Francois Ganevat in Jura. This experience imbued Pierre-Henri with both an enviable knowledge and a unique openness to diverse wine making practices. He saw there was no single way to creating great wines, and in this liberating spirit, he began to see his own path.

In 2010, Pierre-Henri was granted creative agency at Domaine Rougeot, and oversaw wholesale improvements in the winemaking processes that are reflected in the quality we know today. Later on in 2017, Pierre-Henri started a micro-negoce project named "Pierre-Henri Rougeot," sourcing grapes from the family Domaine and his friends. Since then, he has continuously improved year after year. His white wines are truly exceptional, while his reds possess a captivating allure. Drawing on his experience in selling oak barrels, Pierre-Henri has deliberately chosen to minimize the impact of the barrel style on the wine, allowing the terroir to take centre stage. The result is a collection of terroir-focused wines that beautifully express the unique characteristics of their origin.

The talented Isabelle Laurand, a Burgundian, is the cellar master responsible for making more than thirty cuvees from the Cote de Beaune and Cote de Nuits each year for Les Parcellaires de Saulx, a micro-negociant, founded in 2017 by Denise Dupre and her husband, Mark Nunnelly. The winery is in Meursault and was previously known as Manoir Murisaltien. A negoce house has existed in this space since the beginning of the 19th century.

Each wine comes from a single parcel, emphasising the work of the individual growers from whom Les Parcellaires de Saulx purchases must or wine. They only work with farmers who follow organic or biodynamic agriculture. In the cellar, no new oak is used and for most of the wines, only a single barrel is made.

[𝗔𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗿𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿]

Alain Brune started working in the vineyards at a young age of 14 for Pierre Overnoy, a living legend in Jura. After spending years in the vineyards and cellars, his love for wine led him to Burgundy in 1989.

Initially working for Guy Coquard in Morey Saint Denis, Alain began making his own wine as a hobby. Impressed by the quality of his wines, friends of Alain encouraged him to turn the hobby into a business. In 1997, he established a negoce to meet the growing demand from friends and himself.

Now based in Nuits Saint Georges, all of his wines undergo 18 months of ageing in old barrels with minimal intervention. They are fermented in 100% whole bunch with natural yeast; unfined and unfiltered throughout the process; and are never chaptalized. Production is limited, with typically no more than three barrels of Village/Grand Cru wines produced for each vintage.

It's funny that most of his wines were consumed by himself and his friends and occasionally by tourists. Consequently, his wines were kept off the radar, not known nor exported for a significant period of time.

Absolutely a must try for this lessen known name from Burgundy. Up to 15% discount on selected items!

[𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘁 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿]

The Montrachet family consists of five Grands Crus grown in the two villages of Puligny Montrachet and Chassagne Montrachet. These two share the Montrachet and Batard Montrachet appellations. Chevalier Montrachet and Bienvenues Batard Montrachet belong to Puligny Montrachet, Criots Batard Montrachet belongs to Chassagne Montrachet. These Grands Crus are the most southerly of the Cote de Beaune, and lie between Meursault in the North and Santenay in the South.

It was our pleasure to have Benjamin, rep of Les Parcellaires de Saulx, with us last Wednesday. Our VIPs enjoyed the detailed explanation and were very impressed by the wines.

Les Parcellaires de Saulx is a rather new wine house, the first vintage was 2015; even so, their wines are of high quality and definitely something to look out for!

𝗗𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗱𝘂 𝗣𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘂 stands as a testament to the power and complexity of Rhone Valley wines. Under the guidance of Laurence and Paul Feeaud, the estate produces wines that are both rich and deeply expressive of their terroir. The Feraud family’s dedication to traditional winemaking techniques ensures that each vintage tells the story of the land, making Domaine du Pegau a cornerstone of Châteauneuf du Pape.

After inheriting some vines, 𝗘𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝘂𝘇𝗲𝘁 founded his eponymous domaine in the early part of the 20th century and established his domaine as one of the top producers of Puligny within a remarkably short span of time by Burgundian standards. With now son-in-law Benoît Riffault in charge of the winemaking, the wines continue to be some of the most sought-after whites from Puligny, thanks to their perfect concentration and energy.

With the natural understanding of viticulture and wine, and the more than thirty years of practice gained on the job, Jean-Nicolas Meo has developed his own style based on that of his mentor Henri Jayer, which, combined with the prestigious terroirs left by his family and the other plots the terroir of which he has since mastered, has culminated in Meo Camuzet making benchmark wines and the estate’s lofty status in Burgundy today.
