The Evolution of the Modern M.

A visual timeline tracking the pivotal transition of the Leica M-system through four distinct technological eras:

🔴 Leica M6 Classic: The quintessential modern rangefinder. Merging a mechanical, battery-independent cloth shutter with a highly reliable built-in ambient light meter, it established the definitive template for the modern analog M era.

🔴 Leica M6 TTL: The ergonomic refinement. Taking the foundation of the Classic, the TTL variant introduced a larger, re-engineered shutter speed dial (rotating in the direction of the viewfinder LEDs) and advanced through-the-lens flash metering, resulting in a slightly taller top-plate profile.

🔴 Leica M7: The electronic shift. While retaining the body dimensions of the M6 TTL, the M7 replaced the traditional mechanical timing gears with an electronically controlled shutter, introducing aperture-priority auto exposure (A-mode) and split-second accuracy to the analog platform.

🔴 Leica M8: The digital dawn. Representing the fundamental leap into digital photography, the M8 adapted the classic rangefinder blueprint to house a high-resolution CCD sensor and a 1/8000s vertical metal shutter, proving the optical rangefinder mechanism could thrive in a digital ecosystem.

From mechanical simplicity to automated electronics and digital capture—a decades-long lineage sharing the same core DNA. Which chassis best fits your shooting style?

Contax T2 - Platin

The Contax T2 Platin is a premium edition of the iconic titanium point-and-shoot. While it shares the same mechanical internals and world-class Carl Zeiss Sonnar 38mm f2.8 lens as the standard models, it features distinct material upgrades that make it a notable piece for collectors and enthusiasts.

Key Differences from Champagne Gold
• Finish: Unlike the light, warm tint of the Champagne Gold (the most common T2 finish), the Platin features a deeper, cooler, and more lustrous Platinum coating over its titanium body.

• Grip: The Champagne Gold typically uses a standard textured synthetic grip. The Platin is distinguished by a genuine Ostrich leather grip, usually finished in dark grey or black.

• Lens Surround: The ring surrounding the lens on the Platin model often has a high-polish chrome-like finish, providing a sharper contrast against the body compared to the matte finish of the Champagne Gold.

Production & Rarity
The Contax T2 was produced in large quantities throughout the 1990s, with the Champagne Gold making up the vast majority of units in the market. In contrast, the Platin was a special-order release:

• Production Figures: Only 2,000 units of the Platinum edition were produced.
• Availability: Due to these low production numbers, the Platin is significantly rarer and more difficult to source than the standard Champagne Gold or Titanium Black versions.

The Leica Historical Society of America (LHSA) approached Leica about making a Black Paint M6. The objective was to make a camera which cosmetically looked as close to the Black Paint M4's as possible. Originally these were to be based on the non-TTL or "Classic" M6 body, but the introduction of the TTL body and the lack of the old style bodies changed that.

Highlights:
• M6 TTL Black Paint Finish Body
• Brass Milled Top and bottom plates
• "Leica" Engraved top plate script
• 1st Leica to be "Solms" engraved
• Black Leica Dot
• "LHSA SPECIAL EDITION" engraved on back to top plate
• You had to be a LHSA member to order the LHSA Black Paint M6.

Quantity:
0.58x magnification 60 pieces
0.72x magnification 650 pieces
0.85x magnification 440 pieces
