Double Reed (双簧) was one of old Beijing’s most expressive performance arts — a duet of speech, gesture, rhythm, and trust.

This piece from our Beijing Expression collection captures that timeless harmony in handcrafted form.

In old Beijing, some believed the face was a map of the soul.
This was Xiang Mian (相面) — the traditional art of reading character, energy, and destiny through human features.
Far beyond simple fortune-telling, it was a practice rooted in observation, balance, and reflection. In the hands of the master, even the Tai Chi symbol becomes more than an object: it becomes a sign of harmony, transformation, and awareness.
Our Xiang Mian sculpture honors this timeless wisdom — the idea that every face carries a story, and every life leaves traces upon it.
A special detail: the characters on the master’s stand are also entirely handcrafted in polymer clay, bringing even the written elements of the scene to life through the same artisanal process.
A cultural figure shaped in clay, inspired by the quiet poetry of old Beijing.

Light, protection, and hidden meaning. 🏮
The Safe Lantern was more than a decorative object — it carried wishes of safety, prosperity, and spiritual protection into everyday life. In old Beijing, such symbols were never only beautiful: they were part of a visual language, where color, form, and detail expressed hope, dignity, and cultural memory.

In this piece, even the garments speak. Master Zhao chose colors historically associated with elevated status, adding a deeper sense of refinement and symbolic rank to the figure.

Through this carousel, we wanted to explore not only the object itself, but the world of meaning it once carried — where light became blessing, and craftsmanship became storytelling.

Cross talk reminds us of a timeless idea: sometimes the quickest words carry the deepest culture.
Built on rhythm, wit, timing, and chemistry, this art form turned conversation into performance — and humor into memory.

The traditional dentist of old Beijing reminds us of a timeless idea: care was once not only a service, but a human presence woven into daily life.
Sometimes, healing began with tools. Sometimes, with trust.

Some traditions are too delicate to disappear.
This sculpture is our tribute to liù niǎo — the quiet ritual of bird walking that once shaped the mornings of old Beijing.
A fleeting moment, preserved in clay.

Can you guess what part of Lao Beijing culture we’ll uncover next?

Online Exhibition · Spring Outing of the Court Lady
Polymer Clay × Ceramic Blossoms Special Showcase
線上展覽|虢國夫人游春圖 · 軟陶 × 陶瓷花

From the ancient scroll Spring Outing of the Court Ladies,
our Lady steps into Greg Kuang’s blooming ceramic garden—
as if experiencing a true spring outing of her own.

When night falls, she wanders into a Christmas forest,
startling the mountain spirits along her path.
Her tiny figure among oversized blossoms creates a quiet sense of magic,
moving freely between past and present,
between painting and the world we see today.

Placed beside Greg Kuang’s ceramic flowers,
she reveals a wholly new beauty—
textural, surreal, and gently captivating.

Winter has settled across the Northern Hemisphere,
yet spring continues to live softly within us.

The entire set is available for purchase — feel free to DM us.
