Amber on Gray – Colors in Quiet Harmony

Based in Toyama Prefecture, glass artist Takeyoshi Mitsui is known for his distinctive sense of color and his pursuit of softness and warmth within the inherently hard material of glass.

In his Amber on Gray series, layers of amber and gray glass overlap, creating subtle gradations of color and depth. The amount and placement of amber vary from piece to piece, allowing each vessel to reveal a unique expression as light passes through the glass.

來自富山縣的玻璃藝術家三井武義以其獨特的色彩感和對玻璃這種堅硬材質中柔和溫暖質感的追求而聞名。

在他的“Amber on Gray ”系列作品中，琥珀色和灰色玻璃層層交疊，營造出微妙的色彩漸層和層次感。每件作品中琥珀的用量和位置各不相同，使得每一件器皿在光線的照射下都呈現出獨特的韻味。

Takoh-Hei – A Sculptural Expression of Shigaraki

Created by Q Tani, a ceramic artist based in Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture, Takoh-Hei (Multi-Neck Vessel) reflects his deep exploration of the spirit of Ko-Shigaraki.

Crafted from Shigaraki clay, the vessel is slip-coated and wood-fired in an anagama kiln. Its double-layered structure and natural fissures reveal the powerful traces of earth and fire, while the broad, planar silhouette evokes the form of a gorintō, a traditional Japanese five-element pagoda.

Tani has devoted his practice to yakishime—high-fired, unglazed stoneware—taking the jars and vessels of Muromachi-period Ko-Shigaraki as an enduring source of inspiration. In Takoh-Hei, this ancient sensibility is transformed into a distinctly contemporary, sculptural presence.

Quiet yet commanding, the work brings a sense of stillness and timelessness to the space around it.

多頸瓶－信樂燒的雕塑表達

多頸瓶（Takoh-Hei）由居住於滋賀縣信樂市的陶藝家谷穹(Q Tani)創作，體現了他對古信樂燒精神的深刻探索。

此瓶以信樂燒陶土為原料，經泥漿塗裝後，在穴窯中柴燒而成。其雙層結構和天然裂縫展現了泥土與火焰的強烈痕跡，而寬闊的平面輪廓則令人聯想到五輪塔，日本傳統的五行寶塔。

谷穹(Q Tani)一直致力於燒製，高溫無釉陶器，並將室町時代古信樂燒的罐子和器皿視為永恆的靈感源泉。在多頸瓶中，這種古老的美學情趣轉化為一種鮮明的當代雕塑作品。

這件作品靜謐而又氣勢磅礴，為周圍空間帶來一種靜謐與永恆之感。

Rinka Tea Ware

Created as a HULS Gallery Original, the Rinka Tea Ware Series brings a quiet contemporary sensibility to the ritual of tea.

The collection features tea cups in five distinctive colours, each offering a different expression while sharing the graceful, flower-inspired silhouette that gives the series its name. The softly shaped rim and refined proportions are designed to enhance the experience of drinking tea, allowing the colour, aroma, and delicate character of the brew to be appreciated.

Particularly suited to fine Japanese, Chinese, and Taiwanese teas, the Rinka Tea Ware Series reflects our approach to kogei: respecting the knowledge and craftsmanship cultivated over generations, while creating objects that belong naturally in contemporary life.

Looking Back at Art Central 2026

In March, HULS Gallery participated in Art Central 2026 in Hong Kong, presenting works by glass artist Takeyoshi Mitsui and ceramic artist Q Tani.

Through two distinct materials—glass and clay—the presentation explored contemporary expressions of Japanese craftsmanship. Mitsui’s sculptural glass works reveal a playful yet refined approach to form, while Tani’s ceramics draw inspiration from Ko-Shigaraki, pursuing the quiet depth found in ancient Shigaraki ware.

The works resonated with many visitors and collectors, creating meaningful encounters and conversations throughout the fair. For HULS Gallery, Art Central was also an opportunity to share how the traditions, materials, and aesthetics rooted in Japan’s craft regions can find new relevance within the context of contemporary art.

We remain grateful to everyone who visited our presentation in Hong Kong.

回顧藝術中環展會2026

今年三月，HULS Gallery參加了在香港舉辦的藝術中環展會2026，展出了玻璃藝術家光井威善（Takeyoshi Mitsui）和陶藝家谷穹（Q Tani）的作品。

展覽透過玻璃和陶土這兩種截然不同的材質，探索了日本工藝的當代表達。三光井威善的雕塑玻璃作品展現了一種既活潑又精緻的造型手法，而谷穹的陶瓷作品則從古信樂燒中汲取靈感，追求古代信樂燒所蘊含的靜謐深邃。

Rinka Plate S – HULS Gallery Original
Created as a HULS Gallery Original, the Rinka Plate S is crafted in Arita, Saga Prefecture, where the tradition of porcelain making has flourished for more than 400 years.

Named after its graceful, flower-like form, the Rinka collection brings together the refined craftsmanship of Arita ware and a quiet contemporary sensibility. The softly shaped rim gives the plate an elegant presence while allowing it to sit naturally on the everyday table.

Designed to pair beautifully with the Rinka Tea Cup, the Plate S can be used as a saucer for the cup, or simply on its own as a small plate for sweets and delicacies.

A versatile piece of Japanese porcelain, created to bring a subtle sense of beauty to the simple ritual of tea.
