Bestsellers first opened its shop at number 11 Október 6. It was formerly a grocery store. From 1995 for 9 years we operated a dedicated academic bookshop specialising in the social sciences on the campus of the Central European University. In 2004 the opportunity came to expand the original shop and since then we operate as a general and academic bookshop under the same roof. We also act as a new

sagent for foreign newspapers and magazines making it a favourite one-stop destination for our many regulars customers. Bestsellers' motto is “Through Books to Knowledge and Dreams” and our purpose is to showcase the best new books published every month and to order for our customers the books they need for study, work or the pleasure of reading. In this field we are already the leading bookseller in downtown Budapest. The selection of books in our shop is carefully curated by our buyers who order titles directly from the main commercial publishers, as well as the university presses and many small, independent houses. We know how to capture the prevailing Zeitgeist but we also propose classics whose time may have come again. In short, we aim to provide temptation, surprise and the joy of discovery.

From the author of Abbey Road comes the story of how enduring rock icons like Pink Floyd, Bruce Springsteen and many more have remained in the ever changing music game.
When Paul McCartney closed Live Aid in July 1985 at the grand old age of forty-three, we thought he was on the road to retirement. But as it turns out, he - and many others of his generation - were just getting started.
In the last four decades, the big names of the 60s and 70s have been exploiting the age of spectacle that Live Aid created to enjoy the longest lap of honour in the history of humanity, carrying on long after everyone else had given up.
In this brave new world, Elton John plays a royal funeral, Mick Jagger gets a knighthood, Bob Dylan picks up the Nobel Prize, the Beatles become, if anything, bigger than the Beatles and it's beginning to look as though, thanks to technology, they will all be playing Las Vegas forever.

A Concise History of the (In)Famous Doctrine that Gave Rise to the American Empire

President James Monroe's 1823 message to Congress declaring opposition to European colonization in the Western Hemisphere became the cornerstone of nineteenth-century American statecraft. Monroe's message proclaimed anticolonial principles, yet it rapidly became the myth and means for subsequent generations of politicians to pursue expansionist foreign policies. Time and again, debates on the key issues of nineteenth- and early-twentieth-century foreign relations—expansion in the 1840s, Civil War diplomacy, the imperialism of 1898, entrance into World War I, and the establishment of the League of Nations—were framed in relation to the Monroe Doctrine.
Covering more than a century of history, this engaging book explores the varying conceptions of the doctrine as its meaning evolved in relation to the needs of an expanding American empire. In Jay Sexton's adroit hands, the Monroe Doctrine provides a new lens from which to view the paradox at the center of American diplomatic history: the nation's interdependent traditions of anticolonialism and imperialism.

‘Dasgupta has given us the new political breviary of our century. It is the most incisive, urgent, and necessary reflection on political philosophy I have read in decades – the first in a very long time that does not leave me with a sense of despair, but instead fills me with profound hope. A new classic, the twenty-first century’s counterpart to Hobbes’s Leviathan.’ -
