I am delighted to share that I have graduated with a Master’s degree in Textile Design from Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design.
In the last couple of years all my projects at the university have focused on sustainable design and materials in textile design, including my final thesis and project. My thesis research focused on sustainable production and materials from the knitwear and yarn perspective. As a result, I realized that considering our socitey and the growth rate of our population it will never be enough to simply return to our roots and traditions. Therefore, it is essential to continuously explore and develop new materials that we can adapt sustainably to our needs. In my final project, I worked on material development by creating a bio-effect yarn catalogue, which contains over 100 different effect yarns and knitted samples.
I love using effect yarns, because they can give a fun and beautiful texture even in plain knitting. Most effect yarns used for textiles are made from non-renewable petroleum derivatives, which have a harmful impact on the ecosystem. The yarns are alginate based bioplastics coloured with vegetable juices, algaes, spices; their effects are mica, poppy seeds and form effects. These bio-plastic yarns are not harmful to the environment, biodiversity, or human health.
I would like to say thank you here too to all people who have supported me during my studies, and to and , my consultants who both enthusisaticly supported me in creating a succesful diploma.
