Unpopular opinion: there’s a lot of confusion around noseband fit.
This photo shows a two finger clearance (stacked) between the noseband and the nasal bone. That IS more than enough room for the horse to lick, chew, swallow and take a treat. It allows normal jaw movement without restricting comfort.
When it comes to cavesson nosebands, the recommended clearance is about 1,5, maximum 2 fingers. Not half your arm. Looser is not automatically better. If you can fit your entire forearm under the noseband, it’s too loose. At that point it will move around and rub, which can actually cause more discomfort than a correctly fitted, stable noseband.
(It also makes the noseband functionally pointless)
