♟️ World Chess Day – 20 July ♟️
Today we celebrate World Chess Day, recognising a game that has connected people across cultures, generations and borders for centuries. The United Nations observes World Chess Day on 20 July, marking the anniversary of the establishment of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) in 1924.

More than just a game, chess promotes strategic thinking, patience, problem-solving and mutual respect. The United Nations highlights chess as an inclusive activity that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and backgrounds, helping to foster education, tolerance, social inclusion and international understanding.

In Australia, chess continues to thrive in our schools, community centres, libraries and local clubs. From young students developing critical thinking skills to lifelong players enjoying the social connections the game provides, chess reminds us that some of life's best lessons come from thinking ahead, learning from setbacks and respecting our opponents.

Whether you're a grandmaster, a weekend player or someone who simply enjoys the occasional game with family and friends, today is a great opportunity to pick up the pieces and celebrate a pastime that brings people together.

Happy World Chess Day! ♟️🌏
