Would you pay millions of rupiah for a fish? πŸ‰πŸ’°

Meet the arowana, a species so ancient it's practically a living fossil, dating back over 200 million years. It can leap out of water to snag insects mid-air, and the males are basically the most devoted fish dads out there, carrying their eggs in their mouths until they hatch.

No wonder this fish has earned legendary status among collectors.

The Brown Ghost Knifefish spends its life in murky, slow-moving rivers across the Amazon and Orinoco basins, gliding through the water with almost no light to guide it. So how does it get around? It generates a weak electric field around its body and reads the ripples that bounce back, basically building a live map of everything nearby, prey included.

Here's the wild part: scientists have found this species barely shows any signs of brain aging. Out of every vertebrate studied so far, it's the only one where this holds true, which is exactly why researchers keep coming back to it for neuroscience studies.

In your tank, expect a shy character at first. Give it a few weeks with plenty of hiding spots, dim lighting, and calm tankmates, and it'll come out of its shell, gliding forward and backward with the same ease, something almost no other fish can pull off.

Water it actually thrives in: pH 6.5-7.5, temp 24-28Β°C, and a diet of bloodworms or frozen foods once it settles in.

Unlike its regular counterpart with grayish brown body, this albino version shows off a pale white body and glowing red eyes. This unique look comes from a genetic mutation that causes a lack of melanin, making it look completely different from the standard version found in the wild.

But behind that unusual appearance, the character stays the same. Still nocturnal, still an agile predator hunting small fish along the riverbed, and still relying on its long barbels to feel around its surroundings. This fish is originally native to Indonesian freshwater, often found in large rivers across Sumatra and Kalimantan. The albino variant rarely appears in the wild though, most of them come from selective breeding by dedicated hobbyists.

For anyone who loves predator fish with a look that stands out from the rest, the Albino Baung makes one of the most eye-catching additions to any aquarium.

Take a close look at the pattern on its back. That soft marbled brown blended with darker tones is exactly why Metasesarma obesum earned the nickname batik crab, since its shell pattern genuinely resembles traditional Indonesian batik cloth.

This small crustacean comes from the Indo-Pacific region, including the coasts of Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines. It lives a semi-terrestrial life, meaning it spends most of its time on land, tucked away beneath dry leaves and driftwood or burrowed into small holes in the sand. Only occasionally does it wade into brackish or saltwater pools, mostly just to keep its legs moist.

What makes it even more fascinating is how social this crab truly is. It thrives in groups and, over time, can even recognize its keeper, often reacting the moment it sees a familiar face approaching at feeding time.
As for its diet, the marble crab is omnivorous, though it leans toward animal protein such as shrimp, fish, or frozen insects. Still, it happily accepts vegetables and fruit when offered.

Here is one more fun fact. Telling males and females apart is surprisingly simple. Just look at the shape of the abdominal flap. Males have a V-shaped point, while females carry an upside-down U.

Such a small crab, yet it holds so much character, from its artistic shell pattern to a social personality rare among crustaceans.

Can you tell a male guppy from a female?

Misidentifying guppies is one of the most common mistakes among hobbyists, and it can affect your tank balance and breeding results.

Here are 4 key differences to look for:

🐟 Coloration β€” Males are vibrant and patterned. Females are plain and muted.
🐟 Body Size β€” Females are larger and fuller. Males stay small and slender.
🐟 Gonopodium β€” The narrow, pointed a**l fin found only in males.
🐟 Gravid Spot β€” A dark patch near the abdomen, visible in pregnant females.

Which guppy variety are you currently keeping? Tell us in the commentsπŸ‘‡πŸ»

Six-Banded Shrimp (Caridina holthuisi) is not your average ornamental shrimp. They come from Lake Matano, Sulawesi, one of the oldest lakes in the world with its own isolated ecosystem that has been cut off from the outside world for millions of years.

The result? A species you will not find anywhere else on earth.

The look is unmistakable: six vertical beige stripes along the back, a body that shifts between transparent and deep brown depending on the individual. Small at around 2.5 cm, but impossible to ignore in any aquascape.

If you have been thinking about getting into Sulawesi shrimp, this is where to start. Peaceful, more tolerant than most Sulawesi species, and always busy grazing on biofilm across rocks and substrate.

One thing to keep in mind: they need warm, alkaline water (pH 7.5–8.5, temp 28–30Β°C). The complete opposite of the Caridina Bee you might already know.

At first glance, it's just another cute bottom-dweller.

But spend a few minutes watching a Corydoras Adolfoi, and you'll understand why many fishkeepers call it a "mouse fish." From its tiny whiskers to its endless search for food, everything about this little catfish is full of charm.

Nature always finds a way to surprise us. 🧑🐟

Some say keeping red line shrimp feels like protecting something the world is slowly losing. 🦐

Caridina striata, endemic to Lake Poso & Towuti, Sulawesi, Indonesia. critically endangered in the wild, threatened by nickel mining pollution and invasive fish species that have taken over its natural habitat. out there, their numbers keep declining. but in the right keeper's hands, they thrive.

Appearance-wise, the body is semi-transparent with vivid red stripes, not a result of selective breeding, that's their natural coloration. small at around 2.5 cm, but incredibly active and bold. you'll often catch them roaming across rock surfaces, picking at biofilm with their distinctively white chelipeds.

Keeping them does require extra commitment:
Stable temperature of 27–29Β°C, alkaline pH above 8.0, remineralised RO water, and very careful water changes, no more than 10% at a time, always slow drip method. not for beginners, but for those who are ready, this is one of the most rewarding species you'll ever keep.
Females can carry up to 30 eggs, hatching directly into miniature adults within around 30 days. no larval stage, just tiny, fully formed shrimp from day one. 🀍

There is a fish that survives in a way you have never imagined before🌫️

Paradise Threadfin (Polynemus paradiseus) does not rely on its eyes to hunt. In murky and darkened waters, it extends its long filaments, touching the riverbed, sensing vibrations, then moving precisely toward its prey.

It was born and raised in estuaries, where rivers meet the sea, where two worlds collide. And that is where it found its own way to survive.
Its body can reach up to 30 cm in length. Its color is silver with a golden hue. Its movements are slow but deeply calculated.

In an aquarium, it needs calmness, plenty of space, and a patient keeper. Because a fish like this does not ask for much, only an environment that respects its true nature. Even a fish can teach us something😌
