Dolly Parton has always been an inspiration to me. I’ve been a little obsessed with her since way back in the 80s, as a child in a far more conservative Ireland. I’d hear adults scoffing at her OTT clothes and those b***s, and I’d always stay quiet, thinking she was the most gorgeous and glamorous and sexy and charming and delightful woman I’d ever seen. “I’d love to look like her. I’d love to BE like her”.
Of course I couldn’t be like her because who can, except her.
I had no idea then that she was also wiser than most, more talented, and funnier too. But I got to know that. And her spirit became an even bigger inspiration and guide to me than her incredible songwriting talent, her flashy, extra gorgeous style and her magnificent breasts 😅😅
I bought a “Little Book of Dolly Parton” many years ago, filled with some of her sweetest, wisest, funniest, kindest and most optimistic “Dollyisms”, and I have referred to it often when I’ve needed a little boost. Her self-assuredness is something I wish for all women and everyone everywhere.
