One of our latest acquisitions is an exceptional unpublished autograph letter by Daniel O’Connell, written in London on 1 May 1842, at the height of the Repeal movement.

Addressed to James Collins, O’Connell passionately defends civil and religious liberty, condemns sectarian violence in Ulster, and warns of the growing alliance between moderate Conservatives and the Orange interest. The letter offers a vivid insight into the political tensions of the 1840s and the unwavering principles of the man remembered as The Liberator.

Entirely in O’Connell’s hand and beautifully preserved, it is far more than an autograph—it is a remarkable primary source from one of the defining figures in Irish history.
