Sometimes, the hardest battles are the ones nobody can see. 💜
A smile, a busy life, being a mum, showing up for everyone else — none of these mean that someone is necessarily okay.
I’m sharing these images from a place of honesty and lived experience, because depression and suicidal thoughts can happen to anyone. And when it comes to maternal mental health, we need to talk about it more openly.
In Ireland, su***de is the leading cause of late maternal death — deaths occurring between 6 weeks and one year after pregnancy.
Behind the smiles, there may be overwhelm, exhaustion, loneliness or thoughts that someone is struggling to put into words.
💜 You don’t have to wait until you’re at breaking point to ask for help.
💜 Check in with the people around you.
💜 Listen without judgement.
💜 Ask twice if you feel something isn’t right.
💜 And if you’re struggling, please reach out.
It’s okay not to be okay. You matter. You are not alone. 🫶
