The garden plays a big roll in my life as a chair maker here in Kerry. The weather has been kind this year and there's an abundance of lovely fresh organic veg for the kitchen. people always ask how I get the time to do the work I do and tend to the veg garden and the pleasure garden. My answer is often that I don't have to go any where to get to work . If I trip over the cat at the front door in the mornings I class that as a traffic jam. But its more about doing the right things at the right time. Making, growing, spending my time here living out the seasonal routine rarely feels like work. Just living , living in the moment, that's the most important thing!

Three of these benches were made by me, for an exhibition at the Palais De Tokyo Paris by French artist David Ryan. They were based on the undercarrage of my shave horse . Even though a very light frame work the shave horse has been in operation for all of the twenty years I have been here making chairs its a constant reminder of the synergy and longevity found in this discipline of wood working . The three benches now reside in the Brest art museum Brittany still offering a stable perch for its patrons.

After two great days full of stories hardwork and craíc in the workshop Grainne , Oliver, Lisa and Paul have completed their stools and are ready for a pint in Spillanes in the Maharees and then onto the Milesian for a well earned dinner.
