Well this wasn't planned but he's off the bows, that was pretty epic and ended up with me using the angle grinder on the last bolt. The left front hoof broke when a bolt began to spin in it, I will make him a new toe as the old hoof was poor to start with.
I haven't found the neck join yet.
The neck is a nasty pink timber and as I couldn't see a join, I removed the paint and gesso from his bottom. This is a different colour so it proves there is a join somewhere!

Yes, I should be nowhere near Humphrey, but it's cold out and I need to spend money on the earlier horses, they need wood stain, leather, hair etc.
Anyway, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. 😄
I've removed everything, including the horsehair padding and the nasty felt. Here are a few detail shots of this odd horse.

I found a bit of softwood that might do for a head. It's not quite wide enough so I bandsawed a bit off to make enough room for the bottom of the nose.
I was a bit naughty as Miles has just left to do some spraying for a client and we are not supposed to use it if we are on our own. Never mind, it's done now.
I used a screw and a pair of clamps. The screw only goes in a little way, it's just to help keep the timber from sliding about when clamped. I would use dowels but I've left my markers in the UK. 😄😄😄

Messing about with new head sketches for Humphrey. Until I get the paint off, I don't even know where the join is, or even if there IS a join. He looks old but who can be completely sure. He is an £80 horse who can be improved with a new head, so that's what I will do.

I do like it when horses come with stirrups. You get to see some interesting designs too.
