FROM CAVAN TO ELECTRIC PICNIC — WHAT A WEEKEND

We went to Electric Picnic to tell the story of the Dexter, one of Ireland’s native cattle breeds.

In the heart of Global Green, we delivered our three-part experience through storytelling, art and food - exploring the Dexter’s heritage and resilience before taking the story from field to kitchen with Waste Not, Want Not and traditional whole-animal use.

And people stopped. They listened. They asked questions. They tasted. They stayed.

It was particularly special to be part of Global Green, alongside more than 50 organisations from across Ireland bringing together growers, makers, artists, campaigners and communities around food, biodiversity, energy, creativity and practical action.

Thank you to everyone who pulled up a bench, joined the conversation and tasted what we were making.

Special thanks again to , whose support through Culture Night 2025 helped us develop this project and take a piece of Cavan's food and farming story to a national audience.

FROM CAVAN TO ELECTRIC PICNIC

This weekend, The Cottage Market Cavan is heading to Electric Picnic to tell the story of one of Ireland’s native cattle breeds – the Dexter.

Through storytelling, art and food, we’ll explore the Dexter’s heritage, resilience and place within our local food and farming systems.

Shane Carroll and Ray Fitzsimons will bring the story to life, alongside a Dexter installation by artist Rosie Cole.

Then Imelda and Pauric will take it from the field to the kitchen with Waste Not, Want Not – exploring traditional whole-animal use, from broth to rendered fat.

Special thanks to , whose support through Culture Night 2025 helped us develop this project and bring it from Cavan to a national audience.

Just a quick reminder that there will be no Cavan Organic Farmers’ Market this Friday in Cavan Town, Cootehill or Ballyconnell.

The Cottage Market Cavan team is heading to where we’ll be sharing the story of one of Ireland’s native cattle breeds – the Dexter.

The Farmers Market will be back as normal next Friday.

This Friday, 14th August, we're bringing fresh, local food directly to Cavan Town, Cootehill and Ballyconnell.

🥬 Certified organic vegetables
🌱 Grown locally and in season
🥕 Harvested within 12–24 hours of the market

This Friday we'll have a great organic, seasonal selection including kale, spinach, onions, leeks, cabbage, beetroot, carrots, potatoes, garlic, courgettes, cucumbers, tomatoes, celery, herbs, salad leaves and rainbow chard.
