I am a basket maker by profession and have trained in both Ireland and in the UK. I am based outside the picturesque village of Belturbet. There are many Bed and Breakfasts along with two local hotels The Slieve Russel and The Seven Horseshoes in the vicinity. I make high quality durable baskets from seasoned willow which I grow and cultivate. There is a wide range of baskets available from my workshop such as log/coal/turf baskets, shopper style baskets, Traditional Baskets such as Creels, Scoibs which were used to strain the potatoes many years ago, plaited wreaths with a Celtic Cross as a centre piece, Baby’s Cradles, hamper baskets, Willow Garden Obelisks etc
I also facilitate Basket Weaving Demonstrations and Basket Weaving tuition in various styles of baskets. These classes are suitable for beginners, for individuals and groups and are explained in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. They must be pre-booked in advance in order to prepare the materials. During the workshop each participant will learn the techniques needed to make their own handwoven basket from willow which they will take home with them. This is truly a unique experience that will leave you “weaving great”
