The Clifden Bookshop

The Clifden Bookshop Possibly one of the smallest bookshops but so interesting..

The Clifden Bookshop offers one of the most comprehensive and diverse collection of books about Connemara—from guide books, maps and local history to memoirs, Irish literature and picture books from local artists and musicians—if it’s about Connemara, you’ll find it right here at The Clifden Bookshop in Main Street, Clifden.

A new book by Robert Jocelyn of Doonreagan, Cashel tells the story of a previous resident of Doon Cottage and Cashel House, Major Thomas Falcon Hazell who became Britain & Ireland’s most successful and highly decorated Ace Fighter Pilot to survive the First World War.

Robert, himself the 10th Earl of Roden, has written a fascinating, lively and engaging account of a true wartime hero, drawing on his own family’s military background and a personal reservoir of extensive knowledge and research.

There is much of interest with regard to the historic houses of Connemara and the complex national politics of Ireland of the time.

This measured, deeply considered and absorbing tale will interest any reader of military history, particularly those with an Anglo Irish connection and transports the reader back to the very dawn of aviation in modern warfare.

Copies are now on sale here at The Clifden Bookshop.

Calling Tim Robinson fans!

RIA Publishing House is producing new editions of Robinson's iconic map series, Aran, The Burren and Connemara.

We want to hear from people who actually use these maps - do you want us to keep the original format of a plastic pouch with two sections, containing the accompanying book (in the case of Aran and Connemara) and the large, foldable map, or do you want the foldable map by itself?

Should we make the foldable map waterproof?

Would you also like a 'flat' version for framing? How would you like to see these wonderful maps brought back to life?

We would love to hear from you!

Email [email protected] with your feedback.

Disappointing reminder that our shop is a small space and we always respectfully ask customers to leave their drinks and food outside the shop. 🙏🏼
