Beyond the Ferns

Soap inspired by nature, created with intention.

Beyond the Ferns was born from maker Gillian Kavanagh’s love of nature, creativity and the sense of calm found among the trees.

The name was inspired by a painting she created when her youngest child was three, and by the many woodland walks that brought moments of calm, wonder and connection during those early years of raising her children. Leaving the forest always felt like a mindful cleanse — a feeling she wanted to capture in her soaps.

Each batch of Beyond the Ferns soap is thoughtfully handcrafted, bringing together natural inspiration, beautiful colours, textures and uplifting scents. Like a painting, every bar is created with care and intention, designed to turn an everyday ritual into a moment of calm.

A little piece of nature, made to help you pause, breathe and reconnect.

Belinda Northcote is an artist, illustrator and designer who is based near Shanagarry in Cork. She produces a range of framed art work, framed prints, wall art, children’s art and water colours. Belinda takes her inspiration from the perfect designs of nature. Her work is filled with flowers, birds, insects, butterflies and is truly joyful.

Portrait Tea Pot with Gold Lustre – Handmade by Doirin Saurus.

Doirin has a studio in Fethard Co. Tipperary. She has a varied ceramics career which has included public art commissions, residencies, running workshops and teaching in the local schools but mostly she works away quietly on my own.

As she says herself ‘I have always loved working with colour and the recent availability of a great range of underglaze colours has given the ceramic world a new and exciting direction all under the benevolent shadow of the great John ffrench.
There is something about the combination of the challenging construction of a teapot and the painting of the 4 or 5 sided surfaces that keeps me exploring and experimenting. Medieval portraits, haiku, Peig Sayers with Leonard Cohen, Michael D with his ‘Let us abandon false paradigms’, Dervla Murphy’s ‘I don’t do apprehension’ have all found their way onto the teapots. Mostly, however, they are a means of using colour combinations and designs from everything that surrounds me.’ Doirin also makes a wonderful array of large and small cups, adorned with fabulous faces accessorised by a fantastic selection of earrings, hats, slides, bows and such like!

Tamzen is a textile felt-maker. Born in Belfast, she works from her home in Maynooth, Co. Kildare. You will find her surrounded by fibre, up to her elbows in soap lather, dancing to the radio, chatting with her three kids and whooshing the cat off the table!

Tamzen is inspired by stories, often relating her products back to classic childrens books, the mix of the sweet and subversive is designed to make you laugh and inspire your inner child.
