✨ Important Announcement:
Closure of Zero Waste Market Place & Exciting News for Refills in Clonmel ✨

After many years of serving our amazing community, Zero Waste Market Place will be closing its doors. Due to the sale of our building and no suitable new premises, we’ve made the difficult decision to close.

🗓 Our last day will be Saturday, 1st March.
Join us for a special day featuring the Toy Library and Repair Café—a final celebration of community and sustainability. 💚

Peter Binder will be retiring after over 25 years, and we want to thank you all for your incredible support. Your kindness, loyalty, and commitment have meant the world to us. 🌍✨

But here’s some exciting news! 🎉 Another well-loved Clonmel business will be taking over our organic refill section, keeping the refill concept alive in town! We can’t reveal the name just yet, but we’ll share more soon—so stay tuned! 🙌

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of this journey with us. 💚

Many thanks,

Jenny and Peter x

🌿 The Benefits of Herbal Tea for Bloating & Digestive Discomfort 🌿

Feeling bloated or experiencing digestive discomfort?

Herbal teas can be a natural and soothing remedy to help ease the symptoms.

Two of the most effective are Mint and Fennel Tea.

Here's why:

🍃 Mint Tea:
Mint is a fantastic aid for digestion! It helps relax the muscles in your digestive tract, making it easier for gas and bloating to pass. It's also known for its anti-inflammatory properties, which can help soothe an irritated stomach. Sip on some mint tea after meals to promote smoother digestion.

🌱 Fennel Tea:
Fennel is a powerhouse for digestive health! It helps relax the gastrointestinal muscles, reducing cramps and bloating. Fennel seeds are also known to help expel gas, making this tea a go-to for relieving discomfort. Plus, it’s gentle on the stomach, perfect for calming digestive upset.

At our zero waste shop, we stock both organic mint and fennel tea so you can enjoy the benefits of these natural remedies while supporting a sustainable lifestyle. 🌍

We have a wide range of organic herbal teas for you to refill at the shop in Clonmel, Thursday to Saturday or you can order online for home delivery.

✨ Have you tried either of these teas for digestion?

Let us know your experience! ✨

Food Waste: A Global and Local Challenge 🌍💚

Did you know that over a quarter of the food produced globally ends up wasted?

This waste doesn't just impact our environment but also our wallets. Every time we throw food away, we’re wasting all the resources it took to produce it—from water and land to packaging and transport.

In Ireland, the average household wastes around 150kg of food annually, costing up to €700!

Reducing food waste is one of the simplest, most effective ways to save money and the planet at the same time, and prevention, in the first place, is crucial.

Preventing Food Waste: Simple Tips to Get Started 💡🍽️

Cutting down on food waste is easier than you think!

Here are four practical steps to help you reduce waste, save money, and do your part for the planet:

1️⃣ Take an Inventory: 📝
Before heading to the shop, check your fridge and pantry. Know what needs to be used up first to avoid doubling up on ingredients.

2️⃣ Create a Meal Plan: 🍲
Plan your meals for the week to know exactly what you need to buy—no more impulse purchases or forgotten veggies!

3️⃣ Store Food Correctly: 🥕🥦
Keep your fruits and veggies fresh by storing them in the crisper drawer of the fridge, and use airtight containers for leftovers.

4️⃣ Know Your Dates:🗓️
Understand the difference between "use by" and "best before" dates. "Use by" is about safety, while "best before" is about quality. Don’t throw away perfectly good food!

⚠️ Beware of Black Plastic ⚠️

Have you ever picked up a pre-made sushi tray or used plastic kitchen utensils at home?

New research reveals these items could expose you to harmful toxins.

A new study shows black plastic products may contain flame retardants, chemicals linked to health risks like hormone disruption, cancer, and developmental issues in children. Originally used in electronics, these toxic chemicals are now found in recycled plastic used for everyday household products.

What does this mean?
- Black plastic utensils, sushi/deli trays could leach harmful chemicals into our food, air, and even onto our skin.
- These chemicals, designed to prevent fires, weren’t meant for items we touch or cook with every day.

What can you do to stay safe?
1. Replace plastic utensils with safer alternatives like stainless steel or wooden ones.
2. Choose plastic-free products when possible to avoid these toxic chemicals.
3. Buy from brands with strong policies against toxic additives in their products.
4. Keep your home clean with regular wet dusting and good ventilation to minimise exposure to toxic dust particles.

A massive thank you from Louise, Emily and myself to everyone who came along to our latest clothing swap shop. Over 100 items found new homes! 🥳

That’s 100 pieces of clothing kept in circulation, saved from the landfill, and embraced by someone new.

Imagine the impact if swap shops were everywhere!

💚💚WHY CLOTHING SWAPS ARE CRITICAL FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE 💚💚

1. Reducing Pollution
Every piece of clothing swapped means one less item produced—cutting down on the toxic emissions and waste from manufacturing. 🌱 Fewer clothes in landfills, fewer harmful chemicals in our environment!

2. Curbing Fast Fashion
Swap shops help us slow down the fast fashion cycle. Instead of buying more, we circulate what we already have, breaking the cycle of overproduction and consumption. No more wasteful trends, just timeless style. 👗♻️

3. Elevating Personal Style
Discover unique, pre-loved treasures and express your individuality! Swapping gives you access to pieces that can elevate your wardrobe and make you stand out with conscious fashion choices. 🌟

4. Keeping Clothing in Circulation
Clothes deserve a second life! When we swap, we keep garments in use longer, reducing the demand for new production and making the most out of what already exists. 💚

*Support swap shops, reduce waste, and stay stylish!* ✨

Stay tuned for our next swap event!

📅🌍 Second Hand September: Join the Movement

This September, let’s rethink our fashion choices and say NO to fast fashion! 🌿

✨ Oxfam’s campaign is all about embracing second-hand clothing and moving away from brands that harm our planet, like Shein.

Why should you make the switch?

💧 Environmentally Conscious: Fast fashion is one of the biggest polluters in the world. By choosing second-hand, you're helping reduce waste and conserving precious resources like water.

👗 Unique Style: Vintage and pre-loved clothes give you a chance to showcase your individuality. Stand out with unique pieces that tell a story! Make your style your own. ♥️

🚫 Boycott Harmful Brands:Fast fashion giants exploit workers and contribute to environmental degradation. Let's hit pause on supporting these unethical practices by choosing second-hand.

Stay tuned!

📢 Jenny and Louise will be hosting another very popular Swap Shop in this September, where you can trade your pre-loved items and refresh your wardrobe sustainably. Don’t miss out on the chance to embrace a greener, more stylish future. 🌟

Just got back from a super trip to Berlin with my daughter, Arwyn, and I’m amazed how this city effortlessly balances style, sustainability, and a strong sense of community. 🌍💚

A few things we thought stood out:

🚲 It’s inspiring to see how Berliners embrace eco-friendly transport—cycling is the norm here, making the city greener and more active.

🕶 The people here have an innate sense of style that’s both chic and authentic, without relying on trends like fake tans or over-the-top looks.

🥗 From the abundant salad bars to the late-night cafés, Berlin encourages a healthy lifestyle while keeping the social scene alive well into the evening.

🕰 Late-night culture: Whether it’s a museum visit or a vintage shop run, Berlin’s vibrant energy doesn’t fade when the sun goes down.

🛍 Sustainable shopping: The city is packed with vintage and second-hand shops, proving that fashion can be sustainable without compromising on style.

Our hotel had many commendable sustainability attributes, which I'll do a separate post about soon!

Berlin is more than just a city—it’s a way of living that we can all learn from. We can't wait to return! ✨
