It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the Douglas Business Association announces the passing of our Chairperson, Padraig Sheehan.

Padraig was a well-known and much-loved figure in the Douglas community, professionally recognised as a dedicated Solicitor on Church Road. For many years, he provided a full and valued range of legal services, guiding both commercial enterprises and private individuals with wisdom and integrity.

Beyond his legal practice, Padraig had a great passion for growing business in Douglas. His commitment was the driving force behind the re-establishment of the Douglas Business Association in 2022, following the challenging period of the Covid pandemic. He was the main visionary, demonstrating extraordinary enthusiasm, dedication, and leadership to bring our local business community back together and champion its future.

Padraig will be deeply missed by every member of the Douglas Business Association. His friendly face, his insightful guidance and his unwavering belief in the potential of Douglas will be a loss felt by all who knew him. He leaves behind a strong legacy within our association and he will always be remembered.

Above all his accomplishments, Padraig was deeply devoted to his family. At this very difficult time we extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife Niamh, his children Aoibhe, Robert and David, as well as his extended family, friends, and colleagues.

Rest in Peace, Padraig.

Earlier this week I met with businesses and residents in Douglas to hear their very real concerns around the initial proposals from the NTA on the BusConnects routes for Cork. I spent a number of hours walking part of the route with the local community, listening to the fears and apprehensions about the direct impact the new routes will have on their homes and families. All of those I met with support the concept of more sustainable travel and modal shift, but not under the current proposals.

I am committed to supporting those affected by these proposals and engaging with the NTA.

Members of the Douglas Business Association held a meeting earlier today with Minister for Foreign Affairs & Minister for Defence Simon Coveney on the current Bus Connects Proposal for the area.

During the meeting members discussed their concerns for the future of business in the Douglas area if the current proposals are rolled out. All members were very grateful that the minister took time to hear these concerns and are feeling optimistic that a compromise can be reached that will benefit all key stakeholders.

Douglas Business Association (DBA) is a representative group of businesses in the Douglas area comprising some 50 plus businesses. It was established several decades ago and hopes that future redesigns of the Bus Connects proposal will ensure that the village is seen as a destination for people to shop, socialise and do business in.

Amongst those in attendance today included representatives from the hospitality, medical, financial, and business services sectors.
