Emerging from the pitfall of potentially being has a been\professional B movie director M. Night Shyamalan has decided to let his freak flag fly, and deliver the kind of movie one always suspected he had pent up inside of him. It swerves from dark comedy to 1970s-esque psycho-horror as the irresistibly preposterous script struggles for attention against a delirious lead performance by James McAvoy. Split is funnier, campier, and more freewheeling than anything its writer-director has don before which is a fresh.

But this movie ultimately belongs to James McAvoy who plays a lunatic kidnapper with at least 23 personalities to his name and as far as I saw can feel hard done by not to receive a nomination for even his portrayal of even one of the many characters(especially Hedwig!!)

All in all this is a must see, especially for the classic twist at the end which M.Night couldn't resist but let's face it we would have been disappointed not to have!

Having bagged their first best animated feature Oscar last year with Frozen, Walt Disney Animation Studios are back in the ring with this visually dazzling and very enjoyable geek romp which may well triumph over the likes of How to Train Your Dragon 2 and The Boxtrolls on 22 February. Taking its lead from a lesser-known Marvel Comics title (Disney acquired parent company Marvel Entertainment in 2009), the action follows 14-year-old Hiro Hamada as he cuts an adolescent swath through the streets of “San Fransokyo”, a sublime mash-up of America and Japan with future-retro designs to make a Blade Runner replicant weep. Encouraged by older brother Tadashi to stop small-time bot-battling and enlist at a whizzo robotics lab, Hiro finds himself retooling huggable healthcare droid Baymax to do battle with a Kabuki-masked fiend, aided by a small but tightknit nerd army.

While Baymax’s transformation from inflatable-latex squishiness to body-armoured warrior is delightful, the real treats here are in the incidental detail of this beautifully designed world. A lovely thread of gentle slapstick runs through even the most explosive sequences, while Baymax’s Siri-like delivery provides deadpan counterpoint and Scott Adsit’s lyrical lilt lends delicious comedy to phrases like “hairy baby”. An origins story ripe with innocence and loss, this anime-inflected treat harks back to Disney’s big-hearted heritage even as it looks forward towards new worlds of innovation.

In conclusion it's an enjoyable watch for anyone involved.

I’m a sucker for movies about con men, which means, I suppose, that I’m a sucker, since most of them are subpar. “Focus,” starring a somnolent Will Smith as a world-class grifter, features beautiful locations and even more beautiful people but seems more like a travelogue than a caper film. Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, who co-wrote and codirected, mistake glamorousness for inspiration; whenever the story flags, they pile on the Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous stuff.
Smith’s Nicky hooks up early with novice Jess (Margot Robbie), who, in a sequence in New Orleans’ French Quarter, proves her mettle as a first-class grifter. This is the kind of movie where we’re not supposed to know at any time who is playing whom, but since the characterizations are glossy and paper-thin, it’s difficult to get worked up about who gets fleeced.
Scenery-wise, the best sequences are set in Buenos Aires in the world of Formula 1 auto racing. But the best scene comes earlier on, when Nicky, in a luxury suite at the Superdome, extends a losing streak wager with a billionaire Chinese businessman (a very funny B.D. Wong). Is Nicky being played or is he the player? If you think you already know the answer to that question, you don’t really need to see the movie.

Well i have to say I was let down by this one. It has everything on paper, great director that has experience in this field already (Gladitor) and great cast. But if you're going into Exodus: Gods and Kings thinking that director Ridley Scott is going to give the Moses story anything we didn't already get from Cecil B. DeMille in two versions of The Ten Commandments, prepare to be disappointed. It is a four hour movie condensed into two and half hours and because of this it sacrifices (impressive) special effects for a sub par storyline and relating to characters is near impossible because of the fast paced storyline.

It’s that time of year where the excitement for the summer’s music festivals has started to mount, and with it the disappointing realization that life might keep you from seeing all the bands you want to see.Marcus Haney offers up a possible solution for the festival-obsessed. Last year, Haney released a film called No Cameras Allowed, which documented the over-50 music festivals he’s attended since 2010. The catch? He snuck into all of them.

3.5 stars out of 5

Plot:
The Voices centers on nice-guy Jerry Hickfang (Ryan Reynolds), who works at a bathtub manufacturer in the small town of Milton and happens to be the nicest serial killer ever. He's been seeing a psychiatrist (Jacki Weaver) to help overcome a recent unexplained tragedy, he seems to be doing great until she starts asking about his meds which he has been flaky on taking them. "Have you been hearing voices?", she asks, and the answer is quiet simple yes, yes he has, from his dog Bosco and psychopathic Scottish cat Mr. Whiskers (both voiced hilariously by Reynolds), who function as the angel and devil encouraging him in what to do.

Verdict:
It's a delicate balance making us care about a deranged killer, but Reynolds succeeds with his warm-hearted, anxious performance that nearly has you anxious for him. It's good to see Reynolds relieve himself of the sarcastic, cynical characters (Blade, Van Wilder etc..) he generally plays into one that's more vulnerable. While the tone of the movie is a little sketchy and an attempt to explain Jerry's psychosis later in the movie and doesn't really fit with the rest of the movie, The Voices brilliantly finds humour and benevolence in truly heinous acts.

Birdman is a must see this year! with a rating of 4 stars out of 5 keeping it well away from the "It stinks" tagline!

Plot:
‘Birdman’ is the latest film from Mexican writer/director(Know for "21 Grams" and "Babel"), starring Michael Keaton in a terrific role as a washed-up former action-movie actor (with some underlying comparisons of Keaton as "Batman" in the 1992 instalment) trying to revive his role with a Broadway production. As opening night looms, he faces battles with his cast, his family and his own cracking psyche.

Verdict:
Birdman is everything you want movies to be: vital, emotionally affecting challenging, intellectually alive, and visually stunning with the illusion of a single, nearly 2-hour take with Emmanuel Lubezki's camera prowling through St. James Theater crannies and Times Square crowds. A couple of edits for transition are obvious but the overall effect is magical. And welcome back to the big time, Mr. Keaton; you have been sorely missed.
