Anyone in Claremorris check out the exhibition of 'The Ogham Stones of Mayo' in the beautiful venue of Claremorris library for
There are 12 recorded ogham stones from Mayo. An ogham stone is typically a standing stone, with an inscription in the ogham script, usually located on the edge or angle of the stone. This script or writing system was created sometime before the 5th century AD to represent the sounds of an early form of the Irish language and used initially to carve short inscriptions on stone. Mayo County Council Heritage Office has undertaken a Mayo Ogham Stone Project, to achieve greater access to, awareness of and engagement with Mayo's ogham stones, including through 3D recording and 2D etchings. The project was co-ordinated by Dr Nora White and supported by The Heritage Council. The stones were recorded in collaboration with . Artist John Flynn enhanced the 3D models and produced detailed stipple art, revealing carved stone and hidden features. John's artwork is featured in this Heritage Week exhibition.

The Echoes of the Isles project celebrates and preserves the rich archaeology and heritage of the Galway islands through find recordings and artists' impressions. It highlights the profound sense of place shaped by the interwoven histories of land, water, and community.

Art exhibition moves onto Corks best grocers give us a shout, we have a coffee and share Jacks very famous orange scone and look at some art and baking! Pop Crowleys is open Tuesday-Friday 930-5 Sat 930-4. See ya there!!!

The origin of the Macroom name comes from many sources:

‘The Crooked Plain’ is a reference to the landmark tree situated in the the town square, a noted stopping point along journeys.

‘The Plain of Crom’ was a place of worship during pagan Ireland, of the mythological and fertility god Cruach Crom, ‘black, crooked, one’.

This exhibition is a celebration of some of the trees in the town and the surrounding areas. These giants give us peace and inspiration. They invoke emotions, they are landmarks we pass on journeys and reminders of memories and change during the seasons - like of ourselves in life.

The folkore of Saint Gobnait has many fantastic elements to it, to the angel telling her of the 9 white deers that will mark the location to her resurrection, to celtic lore saying her soul left her body as a bee, her work as a bee keeper curing the nuns with her honey and even her bees turning into soliders to fight off invaders!
