MARISA ANDERSON

 Performing mainly from her latest album, The Anthology of UnAmerican Folk, we’re excited and honoured to host acclaimed American guitarist and composer, Marisa Anderson, on Wednesday, September 9th.

The Anthology of UnAmerican Folk, released in May 2026 on Thrill Jockey, is a collection of nearly one thousand songs culled from the private record collection of the late Harry Smith. Assembled by Anderson after a chance encounter led to an opportunity to study and explore this treasure trove of music, the Anthology focuses on music from places that the United States has been in conflict with since 1970.

 Marisa Anderson channels the history of the guitar and stretches the boundaries of tradition. Her playing is fluid, emotional, and masterful, featuring compositions and improvisations that re-imagine the landscape of American music.

In addition to her solo work, Anderson is sought after as a collaborator and composer. Swallowtail, her second record in duo with drummer Jim White was released May 2024 on Thrill Jockey Records. 2024 also saw the release of the feature film score ‘ A Perfect Day For Caribou’, as well as appearances on records by Charlie Parr, Myriam Gendron and Big|Brave. In addition to multiple solo releases, past projects include 2021’s Lost Futures with guitarist William Tyler and contributions to recordings by Matmos, Tara Jane O’Neil, Beth Ditto, Circuit Des Yeux and Sharon Van Etten.
 Classically trained, Anderson honed her skills playing in country, jazz and circus bands.

 Paahto & The Bull is the guitar-duo project of John Francis Flynn and Patrick “Paahto” Cummins.

Having met and played together since 2011 and having cut their teeth at The Maple Hotel on Dublin’s Gardiner Street, Paahto and John helped form the Irish traditional group Skipper’s Alley in 2013 and would remain long-term sparring partners and an integral cog in Dublin’s traditional and folk music communities.

Paahto & The Bull go beyond a meeting of two musical minds and encompasses a very personal element inspired by Paahto’s interest in bluegrass flat-picking and John’s very original approach to accompaniment.

Their music is a very honest reflection of the unique kind of sound that the pair have consistently created with each other over the past fifteen years and, although one might have expected their initial release to be a banjo / guitar product, the lateral thinking that went into choosing a guitar duet is also very in line with the particular flavour of progressive that these lads strive for. The statement is firm: “This is what we play. This is how we play. And this is what we are going to play.”
 Signed to Claddagh Records, Paahto & The Bull will be releasing their debut album in 2026.

Leo Mullane is a singer-songwriter and guitarist from Cork, Ireland, now based in Flensburg, Germany. Known for his creative use of alternative tunings and his soulful, heartfelt voice, Leo’s music effortlessly connects with listeners. Whether he’s lifting the energy with a reggae groove or drawing the room in with raw, intimate lyrics, his performances always leave an impression.

A former member of Irish bands The Blind Poets and The Vestas, Leo has toured, released albums, and built a reputation for making every audience feel at home.

Now carving out his own path, he continues to create music that lingers long after the final note.

FUNKY FINO AT PRIM’S

Caitlin Ruth may have finished her insanely delicious Mexican food pop-up Blacks Brewing & Distilling Kinsale, but she obviously hasn’t quite figured out how to find her way out of the town just yet.

Caitlin is teaming up with Fionnuala Harkin from The Wine Shed for one night of sherries and pairings at Prim’s next Tuesday, July 21st.

 Join Caitlin Ruth and Fionnuala Harkin at Prim’s Bookshop for a night of intriguing food and drink, taking you on a journey through the wild and wonderful world of sherry.

Each style of sherry gets its own unique pairing so we can taste, discuss… disagree even, but mostly enjoy Caitlin’s always creative bites with these beautifully crafted wines.

Some foods are tricky to pair with wine and that’s often where sherry comes in. Kimchi, for instance, has ruined many a wine, but grill it with cheese and serve with a chilled Fino and everyone is singing in harmony. Cucumber aguachile with Manzanilla? Lamb barbacoa tacos with Oloroso? No doubt, there will be debates and alternative options, all of which will be great fun to explore in this convivial room among fellow lovers of food and wine.

John Robb is all these things and his latest book in 2026 on his memoirs ‘Punk Rock Ruined My Life’ will cover all of this and his adventures in punk and post punk and much more.

 AILBHE REDDY
 Ailbhe Reddy is an alt-folk songwriter from Dublin, Ireland. Her debut album ‘Personal History’ was nominated for the RTÉ Choice Music Prize and she has toured extensively in Ireland, Europe, The UK and North America. Her third album ‘Kiss Big’ was released in January of this year.  NOUN
 Marissa Paternoster was the lead singer and guitar player for Screaming Females from 2005-2023. She currently sings and plays guitar in a band called NOUN & works as a freelance illustrator and as a producer / engineer at Lakehouse Recording Studios.  BASCIVILLE
 Equal parts band and production duo, Basciville have spent the past few years as quiet powerhouses in the Irish music scene, working as collaborators, writers and producers with names including Susan O’Neill, Colm Mac Con Iomaire, The Ocelots, and Ailbhe Reddy. Their own output to date includes the EPs ‘Blues in Red’ and ‘For All Lost Youth’, as well as their acclaimed debut album ‘Hymns to the Air’. Known for blending folk, art rock, orchestral swells, and lyrical introspection, their sound moves between sparse minimalism and expansive arrangements, always led by a desire to soundtrack both the personal and political unrest of modern life.
