PIR 146: COVER REVEAL

We are thrilled to reveal the cover for Poetry Ireland Review Issue 146, provided by Northern Irish artist, Stephen Johnston, with his contemporary take on the still life genre. Flowers in Jar no. 9 is from his ‘Nocturnal’ series of oil paintings which delve into the theme of life and death, exploring the impermanence of beauty and the ephemeral nature of existence.

Poetry Ireland Review Issue 146, edited by Stephen Sexton, is now available for pre-order purchase. It features new poems from James Conor Patterson, Dane Holt, Rosamund Taylor, and Susanna Galbraith, as well as work from voices new to PIR such as Nina Reljic and Cameron McGill, among many others. Irish-language editor Aifric Mac Aodha’s selection includes poetry from Gabriel Rosenstock and Ciara Ní É.

Keep your eyes open for our next update!

Find more info about the upcoming issue of PIR on our website https://www.poetryireland.ie/ and visit www.stephen-johnston.co.uk to keep up to date with this art.

Today is World Wetlands Day🌿

Wetlands—ranging from lakes, rivers, and ponds to bogs, peatlands, marshes, coastal lagoons, and swamps—are vital ecosystems. They support incredible biodiversity, act as carbon sinks, and provide flood protection.

Yet in Ireland, our wetlands are disappearing at an alarming rate, largely due to drainage for other land uses. Without urgent action, we risk losing these irreplaceable habitats forever.

We must strengthen protections and policies, restore degraded wetlands, and stop further drainage. Future generations will thank us for safeguarding our wetlands.

Soaring above Ireland’s stunning Cliffs of Moher, where rugged rock meets the wild Atlantic, you’ll see waves crash against sheer cliffs that stretch as far as the eye can see. This breathtaking view is one of nature’s true masterpieces, where sea, sky, and land blend into one unforgettable sight.
