I too have seen many expensive instruments with gouged or cracked front at the soundpost area and other "accidents" that could have been avoided with a simple visit to a violin repairer instead of their owners trying to make their own personal adjustments...

Re-drawing sound holes for a new cello front (old one was missing) on an old german instrument: first find some that fit the style, draw them then choose the best looking one and correct curves that have been damage by time and use. It will now be time to make a template in order to position them on the instrument.
