Pre-order: Purple Pilgrims - Given to the Night

Available on Vinyl LP

Released 27th November

Recommended for anyone into the ethereal dream worlds conjured by Cocteau Twins and Dead Can Dance, the heavenly psych-folk of Mazzy Star, and those who enjoyed the recent superb Martha Skye Murphy & Roy Montgomery collab also on AD 93, as well as the 2020s dream-pop of Deary, She’s Green, etc.

While making the record Valentine and Clementine gently pushed away from the world- deleted social media, retreated into the trees of their native New Zealand - and only invited a couple of people in during the recording process. From that space, the album came together in an eerily easeful way.

There is a dream-like drift and sonic timelessness to the the record, as reflected in its nocturnal title, which can be read in two ways:

“Being taken by, or being inclined towards nighttime, preferring its blurry cloak of shadows to the harsh light of day; or giving oneself up to night, in sacrifice, letting go of fear and melting into the darkness.”

Written during a time of personal transition there was “a sense of finding the light in the shadow” they add. Guitar lines float, synth lines entwine, tapes hiss and vocals stream creating a kaleidoscopic montage of transient memories and emotions. A spectrum of feelings arise - isolation and joy, insomnia and manic highs, confusion and fleeting clarity, grief and healings. In the record, these feelings all merge and fade into one another in a nonlinear manner, as life tends to do; creating something deeply human that simultaneously gestures towards the transcendental.

Out Now: Primal Scream – XTRMNTR – Limited Edition Remastered Red Vinyl 2LP / CD

It’s arguably a toss up as to which is the best record of Primal Scream’s remarkably diverse career. Of course, 1991’s Screamadelica will forever be a landmark moment for the band and indie music as a whole, but 2000’s XTRMNTR, their final album for Creation Records, is as strong a contender for the throne as you’ll find. One of the most striking things about Primal Scream is that they have never been a band content to stand still, and XTRMNTR’s thrillingly brutal assault of noise, garage rock, punk, funk, krautrock and electronic music is about as far removed from the acid house comedowns of Screamadelica as you can get.

The highlights are many throughout this ear-bleeding record, with ‘Kill All Hippies’, ‘Accelerator’, ‘Swastika Eyes’, ‘MBV Arkestra’ and ‘Shoot Speed/Kill Light’ all immediately springing to mind. My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields was pretty much a member of the band at this point, and his influence is felt throughout the album’s approach to texture, noise and its brilliant descent into turn of the millennium decadent oblivion.

Newly mastered under the supervision of Bobby Gillespie and Andrew Innes by Matt Colton at Metropolis Studios, London, these comprehensive releases create the definitive document of Primal Scream’s revolutionary sonic experiments recorded in their ‘bunker studio’ between the years of 1997-2002.

Featuring the original track list alongside a curated selection of B-sides and rarities including 2 previously unreleased tracks, as well as liner notes by acclaimed author Darran Anderson.

New from Amyl & The Sniffers! Truth or Consequences (Live at El Coyote, Los Angeles)

Available on vinyl & CD

Truth or Consequence is a live album following the concert film of the same title, in which Amyl and the Sniffers perform country-influenced versions of their songs, two unreleased tracks, and a cover of the Slim Dusty classic ‘Lights On The Hill’.

It was recorded and filmed in front of an intimate and increasingly rowdy audience at El Coyote in Los Angeles, on 28th April 2025, by the band’s long-time collaborator, John Angus Stewart.

The hope for this record is that it is listened to as it was made, in a ruckus exclamation between a cherished group of friends. Enjoy!

Essential Reissue – Talk Talk – The Colour of Spring (40th Anniversary Half-Speed Master)

One of our absolute favs, The Colour Of Spring turns 40 this year and gets the half speed master treatment as the latest instalment in the Talk Talk series. Cut by Matt Colton at Metropolis Studios and overseen by drummer Lee Harris and Charlie Hollis, son of Mark Hollis, it’s a beautiful new presentation of a truly remarkable record.

Released in 1986, The Colour Of Spring captures Talk Talk at a pivotal moment, with massive tunes like Life’s What You Make It and Living In Another World sitting alongside the ethereal, almost spiritual April 5th and Chameleon Day.

Still connected to their synth pop beginnings but beginning to embrace something far more fluid, spontaneous and experimental, it laid the groundwork for Spirit Of Eden and the extraordinary music that followed. Forty years on, this remains an essential Talk Talk record.

🌱 50th anniversary of the beloved cult classic by Mort Garson! 🪴

First authorized eco-friendly reissue, pressed on 100% recycled eco-green vinyl, printed on 100% recycled paper, housed in a 100% recycled jacket, wrapped in bio-based shrinkwrap.

Includes full reproduction of original Mother Earth’s indoor plant care booklet. Each record comes with a plantable download card printed on seed paper.

Before Brian Eno made discreet music, Mort Garson was already quietly reshaping the possibilities of sound. A Juilliard educated session player and prolific arranger, Garson wrote lounge hits, scored the 1969 moon landing and worked with artists including Doris Day and Glen Campbell. Then, in the mid 1970s, he turned his Moog towards something altogether stranger: Mother Earth’s Plantasia, an album of “warm earth music for plants…and the people that love them.”

Inspired by the bizarre bestseller The Secret Life of Plants, Plantasia is equal parts psychedelic curiosity, electronic experiment and stoner soundtrack, supposedly composed for the plants filling homes across America. A cult classic decades later, its 2019 Sacred Bones reissue sparked a remarkable second life, introducing Garson’s unlikely masterpiece to a new generation. Now, 50 years on, Plantasia remains an enduringly strange and beautiful record, proof that Garson could make the synthetic feel strangely alive.

Record of the Week: Arab Strap – Half-Told Tales

Available on vinyl and CD with free signed print while stocks last!

Arab Strap continue their remarkable resurgence with yet another brilliant release. Their third album in six years is an eclectic trip into an irreverent, void-like hole of hyperreality, where Aidan Moffat’s wonderfully darkly comic observations collide with Malcolm Middleton’s danceable, physically arresting compositions. From the big grooves of Glamour Magick to the slowcore echoes of Gape and Mr. Splitfoot, highlights are frequent and unpredictable, with the duo constantly pushing between parody, pastiche and homage.

In an age where everything seems increasingly designed to be comfortable, accessible and easily put in a box, Half-Told Tales is all the better for refusing to play that game. Hardened, angry and frequently hilarious, there’s also a surprising warmth and genuine sense of understanding running right through its centre.
