Deepest condolences to Red’s family, friends and everyone at the Dodder Anglers Association. His dedication to protecting the river and preserving angling for future generations leaves a lasting legacy. May he rest in peace.

In Memory of Redmond "Red" O'Hanlon

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear friend and lifelong champion of the River Dodder, Redmond "Red" O'Hanlon.
Red was an integral part of the Dodder Anglers Association for over four decades, having first become an honorary member in 1979. For several decades, he served steadfastly as our Honorary Secretary, acting as a true steward and voice for the river well into the 2010s and 2020s.
His passion for the Dodder was tireless:
River Conservation & Advocacy: Red was a central figure in protecting our waters against pollution, carefully managing local fish stocks, and leading community clean-up efforts.
Club Leadership: He represented the association with wisdom and dedication in local planning and environmental matters, ensuring the river was protected for generations to come.
Lasting Legacy: His immense contributions to our waters were formally honored through the establishment of the Red O’Hanlon Perpetual Trophy and Shield on the River Dodder.
The O'Hanlon legacy continues as Red's son, Patrick, brings his own dedication to the club committee, taking on the role of Club Treasurer. Red's memory will always be held fondly as Patrick carries the family's passion for the association forward.
Red’s commitment, camaraderie, and love for angling left an indelible mark on our club and our community. He will be dearly missed by all of us at the Dodder Anglers Association and beyond.
We extend our deepest condolences to Red's family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.
Tight lines in peace, Red. 🎣
