Not enough Gardai

I was speaking to some Gardai recently and they admitted they are under severe pressure but they warned if we think it is bad now just wait till the EU top brass start arriving in Ireland from July 1st. The already overstretched Gardai will be run ragged.
At the moment response times are a disgrace. Gardai have virtually no time to investigate so called "low level" crime. You seldom see a Garda on foot patrol in our towns or cities. People just dont feel safe anymore.

Data Centre Madness

Why are we allowing this?

There are over 80 data centres in Ireland with at least another 12 being built.

Data centres in Ireland use 22% of the country's total metered electricity

Data centres generally pay much less for electricity than normal households. Depending on the region, large energy users can pay between 50/ to 80/ less per unit of electricity.

Data centres in Ireland consume approximately 810 million litres (810,000 cubic metres) of public water each year.

Data centres are associated with air pollution, noise pollution, water contamination ,chemical exposure and increased EMF.

Many countries limit the amount of data centres allowed

Ireland has become Europe’s largest data centre hub (specifically clustered around Dublin

The Irish Tech Sector

The government really needs to keep an eye on the Irish Tech Sector which has lost over 20,000 jobs so far this year. How much longer can we depend on the massive returns from Corporation Tax which have kept this country afloat?

Corporation tax has brought in over €156 billion in the past ten years and we still have a broken health service, increasing homelessness, a farm sector in crises, an underfunded police service, a poor public transport system, not enough prison spaces, a bloated NGO sector ect ect. It's overspend after overspend. We need to get our house in order.

'' There is no car available ''

This is the response more and more people are hearing when they ring 999 looking for Garda assistance. In my over 30 years working in the security sector I have never seen it so bad. There is a total breakdown in policing and the courts are a shambles.

Speak to any recently retired Garda and they will tell you how bad it really is. There are not enough Gardai. They have no resources. New Gardai are poorly trained and get no direction. You just dont see a Garda uniform on the streets of our towns or cities anymore.

Where will elderly Irish people live?

Where are elderly Irish people expected to live once they have retired and are no longer able to pay the extortionate rents being asked for in their current homes?

Many Irish retailers have given up reporting shoplifting

You can no longer believe any of the retail crime figures in Ireland as many retailers no longer see the point of reporting retail crime. The following are some of the reasons.

1. It can take days for Gardai to respond to a 999 call when its about shoplifting.
2. It is extremely difficult to get the incident Pulse number. It can take multiple calls to the station to get that number
3. There is virtually no feedback on the crime investigation.
4. It can take up to 4 years for the case to reach the courts.
5. On the day of the case many of the defendants dont show up so the case is put back for another day. It's unbelievable how often this happens.
5. The jails are full so there is no penalty for the criminals.

The whole system is falling apart .

Just When You Though You Had Heard It All In Ireland

Over 100 Electric buses are sitting in a yard in Northern Ireland unused because the Irish National Transport Authority bought the buses but didn't buy chargers for them. These buses cost around €500,000 each. Some of the buses have been sitting idle for nearly three years. I wonder has anyone been sacked over this atrocious waste of taxpayers money?
By the way the NTA hope to have some of them operational hopefully by the end of the year. By that time they will be old tech.

Fair is Fair

With the Department of Finance predicting a €9 billion budgetary surplus for this year when can Irish pension holders expect to get paid back the €2.4 billion the Irish Government raided from Irish pensions between 2011 and 2014? It would also be interesting to see when the hated USC will be done away with? We all remember that being introduced as a "temporary tax".

Pickpockets at work in Dublin

Tourists are being targeted by pickpockets around Dublin again. Professional gangs are extremely active at the moment. They seem to be especially interested in stealing American Express cards. Irish retailers should always ask for photo id when accepting American Express. Make sure the name on the photo id matches the name on the card. This protects both the card holder and the retailer.

Ireland Today

What we have seen in the past few days is the absolute disconnect between the Dail and the Irish worker and taxpayer. How politicians of all parties could not have seen the present situation arising beggars belief. Humility is needed now from politicians not arrogance.
