The Current Issue 15 is out ⚡

There is a payment worth about €420 a year towards your electricity bill that a lot of Irish households never claim, and it is usually down to two things people wrongly believe about it.

Also in this week's issue:
• The Household Benefits Package is €1.15 a day towards electricity or gas, plus a free TV licence. If you are 70 or over you qualify, and it is not means tested
• Myth one: you do NOT have to live alone. Myth two: the bills do NOT have to be in your name. So a parent aged 70 or over living with you can claim it even though the bill is in yours
• Fuel Allowance is expected to open the week of 21 September. €38 a week for 28 weeks, and you can hold both payments
• Before you turn the heating on: test the carbon monoxide alarm, service the boiler, set the controls, bleed the radiators
