Electric Ireland puts its prices up next Wednesday, 1 July. As the biggest supplier in the country, it usually sets the tone for everyone else. Here is what is changing and what you can do this week to soften it:

Electricity up 8%, gas up 7.7% from 1 July
About €138 a year more on the average electricity bill
Submit a meter reading on or before 1 July so your usage to date stays at the old rate
Compare your unit rate and standing charge before you switch
Good news too: the €1,800 solar grant is now locked in to 2029

Ireland's grid is getting a major upgrade. The CRU has approved a €13.8 billion investment programme running to 2030, bringing 300km of new underground cables and 27 major substations across the country.

New SEAI grants for windows and doors are here. For the first time you can claim a grant for new windows and doors on their own, no full retrofit needed. The 2026 changes that matter for Irish homeowners:

Windows: up to €4,000 (detached), €3,000 (semi-d), €1,800 (mid-terrace), €1,500 (apartment)
External doors: €800 each, up to two
Solar PV grant stays at €1,800, and home batteries now get 0% VAT when fitted with solar
