🌿 That’s a wrap on the Canopy Sessions… for now! 🎶

There won’t be music beneath the trees this Saturday - our Summer Canopy Sessions have officially come to an end.

What started as a little idea for our 40th year turned into something really wonderful: sunny Saturday afternoons filled with music, coffee, plants, familiar faces, and new ones too, all beneath the trees.

A huge thank you to every musician who shared their music with us this summer, and to everyone who came along, pulled up a chair, stayed for a coffee and helped make the Canopy Sessions such a success.

We’ve loved them so much that we plan to continue the Canopy Sessions next year! 🌿🎶

And we’d love your suggestions. Is there a musician or band you’d love to hear beneath the trees next summer? Tag them below or send us their details - we’re already making our list.

And while the summer sessions may be finished, there’s one more special Canopy Session to come this year, on Saturday 23rd October, as part of our 40 Years & Growing celebrations. 🌳✨

One last afternoon of music beneath the trees. 🎶

This Saturday, we’re wrapping up our summer Canopy Sessions with the legendary Noel Burke & Friends, bringing a lively afternoon of traditional Irish music to The Coffee Bee.

Come along for lunch, have a wander through the nursery, grab a coffee and settle in by the stream for a few tunes - the perfect way to see out a summer of Saturday music at Future Forests.

The 2026 Ellen Hutchins Festival is now on until Sunday 23rd August with events in Bantry, Glengarriff, Ballylickey, Coomhola, Ballydehob, Kealkill and on the Sheep’s Head Peninsula.

Inspired by Ireland’s first female botanist, Ellen Hutchins who was born in Ballylickey in 1785 and the inaugural festival was initiated to commemorate the 200th anniversary of her death in 2015. The festival is now an annual event, taking place over nine days each year during Heritage Week.

The festival includes a wide range of events designed to encourage people of all ages to explore the natural and cultural heritage of Bantry Bay. Many are free, some have an entry fee.

There's something timeless about a white Hydrangea arborescens Annabelle in full flower.

In this week's video, Mattie shows us one growing in his own garden and explains why it's become such a favourite. With enormous cloud-like blooms that seem to float above the foliage, it's a real showstopper through summer.

Annabelle thrives in a sheltered spot, where those white magnificent flower heads are protected from strong winds. If your garden is a little more exposed, Mattie recommends Strong Annabelle – a hardier cultivar with sturdier stems that stand up better to winds.

We have two basket-making events coming up on 23rd August Future Forests as part of the Ellen Hutchins Festival. Ciara Strange will be teaching the basic of basketry in two short workshops - make a willow rattle to take home - and Yvon O'Flynn will be providing a free basket-making demonstration, weaving a basket from start to finish in under two hours.

This Saturday, we’re delighted to welcome Richard Waterborn to the Canopy Sessions.

Richard’s love of the Spanish guitar began in childhood and has stayed with him ever since. His repertoire weaves together beautiful music from Spain, Latin America and Ireland, creating a warm, expressive afternoon of acoustic guitar beneath the trees.

Whether you’re joining us for lunch at The Coffee Bee, browsing the nursery or simply unwinding with a coffee by the stream, Richard’s music is the perfect soundtrack to a slow summer afternoon.

For the pineapple w**d that survived an entire summer commuting between West Cork and Cork City… only to be accidentally plucked out by a friend. Kay rescued it, replanted it, and against all odds it still lives on in Glengarriff. Now that's determination. 😂

For a broken Jade plant cutting that Lily stuck back together with honey - and somehow it worked! 🍯🌱

Teasel is one wildflower that gives back year after year.

In summer, its distinctive lilac flowerheads are alive with bees, butterflies and other pollinators, making it one of the best wildlife plants you can grow. As autumn arrives, the flowers give way to striking seed heads that bring structure to the garden - and become a favourite feast for goldfinches and other seed-eating birds throughout winter!

In this week's video, Mattie explains why Teasel has earned its place in his garden, and why it's well worth leaving those seed heads standing long after the flowers have faded.

Nature will thank you. 🐦‍⬛🌿
