A poignant and very beautiful commemoration was held in Dromcollogher today, one hundred years since the cinema fire of 5th September 1926 took forty-eight lives.

Our village remembers. Irish Dresden is proud to stand with Dromcollogher26, and to have handcrafted the limited edition commemorative piece marking this centenary year, made here in the village where it is remembered.

Happy 4th of July from Irish Dresden! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช

Today America celebrates a truly historic Independence Day โ€” 250 years since the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776.

For us at Irish Dresden, this milestone stirs proud memories of our own special connection to America's First Families.
Following the 200th anniversary of American Independence in 1976, our handcrafted porcelain lace figurine "Reading the Family Bible" โ€” depicting George and Martha Washington โ€” was presented to First Lady Rosalynn Carter, wife of President Jimmy Carter. In 1988, First Lady Nancy Reagan was also presented with "Reading the Family Bible" โ€” America's first First Couple, captured in delicate porcelain lace, gracing the White House across two presidencies.

Every one of these pieces was delicately handcrafted and painted in Dromcolliher, Co. Limerick โ€” the same way we still craft each figurine today, continuing a family tradition that stretches back to 1907, from Rudolstadt-Volkstedt in East Germany to the heart of West Limerick in Ireland.

To all our American collectors, customers and friends: thank you for over 60 years of loyalty, warmth and love of what we do. Today we celebrate with you. Happy 250th, America! ๐ŸŽ†

๐Ÿ† Exciting news from Tokyo!

We are absolutely thrilled to share that Team 6 โ€” "Shichimi" โ€” of the Japan Market Expansion Competition (JMEC) have been awarded 3rd Prize at the JMEC Awards Ceremony, held at the prestigious Tokyo American Club! ๐ŸŽ‰

Their project? A full Japanese market strategy for Irish Dresden. This remarkable group of working students from across the globe โ€” including Japan, the United States, Vietnam, Indonesia and beyond with backgrounds in consumer goods, fashion, graphic design and engineering โ€” threw themselves into the challenge with extraordinary dedication, passion, and creativity. They interviewed distributors, visited retailers, analysed competitors, and delivered a report that has given us a genuine and actionable roadmap for developing Irish Dresden's business in Japan.

Before the ceremony, we were honoured to be hosted by Entreprise Ireland at Ireland House in Tokyo, where the team presented their research findings to us in person โ€” a truly special occasion, and a proud moment for Irish craftsmanship on the world stage. ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต

What made this team truly special was their genuine love for our product and the lengths they went to in finding new and imaginative ways to bring Irish Dresden to Japanese customers.

To Corinn, Nagisa, Jocelline, Alexander, Toshihiko, Minh, and Kanna โ€” thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We are determined to implement many of your recommendations โ€” watch this space!

A sincere thank you also to JMEC Programme Director, Trond Varlid and the entire JMEC team for creating a programme that delivers such real and tangible results for companies like ours.

And finally, we would like to extend our warm gratitude to Limerick Enterprise Office for their generous support of this project. Initiatives like this simply would not be possible without the encouragement and support. ๐Ÿ™

Five years ago this week, we said farewell to our beloved co-founder, Johanna Saar. ๐Ÿ’

Johanna arrived in Dromcolliher in 1962 with her husband Oskar, carrying with her a porcelain-making tradition that stretched back generations in Germany โ€” and a quiet, unshakeable belief that it would find its second home here in Limerick. It did. Under her leadership and guidance, Irish Dresden became one of the world's most respected names in handcrafted porcelain giftware, with our lace-porcelain figurines finding their way into homes of presidents, royalty, and families alike across the globe.

She was a mother, a grandmother, a trailblazer, and an entrepreneur to her core. Named Veuve Clicquot's Irish Businesswoman of the Year in 1987, she remained, above all, a craftswoman who cared deeply about the people of Dromcolliher and the exacting standards of her trade.

Five years on, her legacy is very much alive. We're thrilled to share that the Saar family is working to open a new visitor experience here in Dromcolliher, welcoming people to step inside the Irish Dresden story โ€” and that we have re-established Irish Dresden in both the Japanese and UK markets, carrying her work to new generations of collectors, as well as a redesigned website and new collaborations.

Thinking of Johanna this week - her hands sculpted more than porcelain โ€” they shaped a legacy. ๐Ÿค
