Monday 30th September 1957, by the end of the day the last scheduled passenger and goods trains ran on the following local lines: Clones to Omagh, Fintona Junction to Fintona and Bundoran Junction to Bundoran on the Great Northern Railway and Enniskillen to Sligo on the Sligo, Leitrim & Northern Counties Railway.
From 1.30 pm onwards and into this evening we will post details on the last trains into and out of the stations in our area as and when they occurred. We will also include photos, where we could, for each train movement.
In the first and second pictures, from the J J Smith Collection, Courtesy of The Bluebell Railway Museum, Great Northern Railway PP Class engine No. 50, built in 1911, raises steam at Bundoran engine shed on the morning of the last day.
In the third picture, from the J J Smith Collection, the same engine, No. 50, was photographed leaving Bundoran with its two vans and two coaches on the 10.31 am passenger service to Enniskillen. Driver Paddy Martin and Fireman Bob (Roddy) McCordy are on the footplate.
Lastly we have a picture from S C Nash, thanks to Charles P Friel, of the last goods train, pulled by the Great Northern PG Class engine No. 100, to leave Bundoran at 11.20 am.
Later this afternoon we will look at the last passenger trains on the branch and at several different stations too.
