In original publisher's orange cloth, top stain brown, frontispiece of Chief Standing Bear at council, illustrated throughout with black and white photographs and drawings by the author. Clean, tightly bound copy. Signed and inscribed by the author to the front end page as follows, [ To Larry Metcalf from Chief Standing Bear (Mató Nájin), Ohini nitakola, May 12th 1928] "Ohini nitakola" is a phrase in the Lakota Sioux language meaning "Always your friend". It was notably used as the personal signature or name inscription of the Oglala Lakota.
