It’s a beautiful evening for the turning on of the lights in Portlaoise. It all kicks off at 6.30pm in Top Square with live music and a visit from Santa himself to turn on the lights, all wrapped up in time for the Toy Show!

With just a few hours to go until the festive season in Portlaoise truly starts, with the turning on of the Christmas lights by the main man dropping in on his way to the North pole to watch the Toy Show, accompanied by Live music in the Bandstand in the Top Square this evening (Friday 25th @ 6.30pm). Drop by and say hello!

The festive fun continues in Portlaoise on both Saturday and Sunday with the Downtown Portlaoise Christmas Market. A large array of local Artists, Crafties and Foodies will join together with all the local businesses in Portlaoise for a fantastic Festive event on the Main street of Portlaoise.

We're looking forward to bringing the Portlaoise Christmas Market to the Main Street this Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th November from 11 to 5.30pm each day.

Also to get in the festive spirit for the Toy Show, we will have some music and entertainment for the turning on of the town lights on Friday evening at 6.30pm.

On both Saturday and Sunday, there will be a large array of seasonal stalls to suit everyone with music in the bandstand, hot food and drinks, kids amusements and lots more to enjoy as well as some fantastic Christmas shopping opportunities in the local shops in Portlaoise.

Portlaoise Christmas Market will be taking place on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th November with the Portlaoise town lights being switched on in Top Square on the evening of Friday 25th November.

Final preparations are under way for what is looking to be a fantastic festive weekend to kick off the Christmas season in Portlaoise, including the addition of a bandstand in Top Square and the Elf Academy. We can’t wait to welcome everyone to Main Street!

Keep an eye on the Facebook over the next ten days as we will be giving away some free prizes from some of the beautiful stalls in our market.

Portlaoise Christmas Market returns for 2022!

We are delighted to announce that our popular Portlaoise Christmas Market is going to be a weekend event this year.

The evening of Friday 25th November will see the turning on of the town's Christmas Lights with music and a lovely Christmas atmosphere to get it all started in Top Square.

Both Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th will see Main Street turn into the spectacular Christmas Market with a huge array of festive gifts for all.
This year, the addition of a bandstand in the Top Square with local choirs and entertainment along with all of our usual attractions is going to ensure a magical weekend in Portlaoise.
