What We’ve Learned Supporting Irish Businesses for 50 Years

After 50 years working with Irish businesses, one thing is clear:

offices change, but the fundamentals don’t.

Trends come and go - open plans, hybrid work, hot desking, but successful workplaces always share the same traits:

• spaces that support focus as well as collaboration

• layouts that evolve as teams grow

• practical solutions over fashionable ones

• decisions made with long-term use in mind

We’ve learned that the best results come from listening first, not selling first.

Every business works differently.

Our job is to understand that and design spaces that genuinely support it.

Sit-Stand Desks: When They Make Sense and When They Don’t?

Sit-stand desks are often seen as a must-have for modern offices.

In reality, they’re not the right solution for everyone.

✅They make sense when:

• people spend long hours at their desks

• work requires regular screen time and focus

• users are encouraged (and trained) to alternate positions

• ergonomics are set up properly

❌They don’t make much sense when:

• desks are rarely used for long periods

• work is mostly mobile or meeting-based

• the desk is shared without adjustment

• they’re added without changing habits

A sit-stand desk isn’t a wellness fix on its own.

Used properly, it can improve comfort and movement.

Used poorly, it becomes an expensive static desk.

That’s why we always look at how the space is used first, before recommending any solution.

Why Open Offices Fail Without Acoustic Planning?

Open offices were designed to improve collaboration.
In reality, many of them do the opposite.
The most common issue we see? Noise.

Phone calls, meetings, movement, and background chatter all compete for attention. Over time, this leads to:
• reduced concentration
• more stress and fatigue
• people wearing headphones just to get work done

The problem isn’t the open office itself, it’s the lack of acoustic planning.

Good layouts don’t rely on silence. They rely on zoning:
• quiet areas for focused work
• semi-private spaces for calls
• collaboration zones where noise is expected

This is where solutions like acoustic pods, screens, and soft partitions make a real difference. They allow teams to work in the same space, without working on top of each other.

A well-designed office doesn’t try to eliminate noise.
