Retail Services

FSM currently provide a collection service to over 500 supermarkets nationwide. Our service provides total compliancy to the Animal By Products Legislation 1774/2002 and the Food Waste Regulations 2009. Having done extensive trials in this area, our research has shown us that 75% of food retailer's waste is packaged food. FSM provide a cost effective and user friendly service for retailers, which involves providing them with two different colour wheelie bins for the storage of two different waste streams. The Red Bin - packed meats, yogurts, milk, butter / cheese, beverages, juices, ready meals, soups. The Green Bin - fruit/ veg, bread, cakes, cereals, biscuits, confectionary, pasta / rice, all dry food. The wheelie bins provided are laundered bins which means they can be kept in the store if required. All full bins are collected from each store and replaced with laundered bins. Each bin type is clearly marked as to what products are to be placed in each. Wholesaler / Distribution Centres

FSM currently provide a collection service to over 50 wholesale / distribution centres around Ireland. This includes cold and ambient distribution centres. These centres are provided with laundered pallet boxes, for the storage of damaged product, out of date, returned and quality defected products. FSM also collect full pallets of obsolete stock direct from the centres, which cuts down on labour costs involved in stripping down pallets for landfill.

Moving to compressed natural gas (CNG) today is a sustainable long term choice for Irish businesses that wish to adopt renewable gas. Renewable gas is already compatible with current CNG vehicles and provides a clear path for companies that want to reduce their fleets' carbon footprint.

Food Surplus Management (FSM) use their own fleet and state of the art plant to recover 95% of all food collected for the renewable gas industry. All food collected by FSM is processed in anaerobic digestion plants to produce renewable gas, which then fuels their CNG vehicles.

♻️ Lidl Ireland & Northern Ireland is set to launch the first Island-wide supermarket circular economy strategy, helping to fuel our logistics chain using food waste from our 209 stores on the island and reducing emissions per bio-fuel truck by up to 93%♻️

We are building on our longstanding partnership with Trim-based Food Surplus Management (FSM), who will collect food waste and customer’s recycling deposits directly from Lidl stores and regional distribution centres across the country. The food waste will then be converted to renewable bio-methane and used to fuel the fleet reducing carbon emission per truck by up to 93%.

In addition, FSM will collect soft and rigid plastics from the our stores including customer’s deposits and recycle them to make items such as garden furniture, pallets, and flower pots, closing the loop for a more sustainable future.
