ALTITUDE Specialist bike shop based in Waterford City, Ireland. Established 1989. Altitude is Waterford City's longest established bike shop - we've been here since 1989.

We cater to all types of cyclists - from super lightweight carbon fibre racing bikes to mountain bikes, hybrid bikes and children's bikes. We are a Trek Partner Store and also stock Giant, Scott and Bergamont bikes as well as a full range of accessories and components. Our workshop is a Shimano Service Centre and we offer wheelbuilding, suspension servicing and carbon fibre repairs.

Everyone at Altitude was very saddened to learn last week of the sudden passing of our lovely friend Marie Jastrzebska. Many will have met Marie during her years working at McGuires Garden Centre. To meet Marie was to experience true gentleness. She was one of the kindest people I’ve ever met; particularly when it came to animals. Over the years Marie and her husband Les became very good friends of ours and Marie was particularly fond of our French Bulldog Louis. The feeling was mutual. We send our deepest condolences to Les and to all of Marie’s family.

Delighted to announce that we have added to our range of cycle shoes. We have been asked many times for a wide fitting shoe and Lake offer a wide fit in almost all their shoes. Definitely one of the most comfortable cycling shoes I’ve ever tried on. We’ll have Lake on the website next week and more stock is on the way to make sure we have a full range of sizes.

Following requests from our customers we’ve added the Rent a Bike Box service to the store. If you’re travelling away to an event and you’d like to bring your own bike, you can rent a high quality bike transport case from us. The rental is €10 a day (with some t’s and c’s) and we have a Thule Hard Case or a Scott Soft Case option. If you’d like to book a box just contact the shop at 051-870356 or by email from the website.

Never fail to be impressed by the scale of the permanent showroom that Scott have at their HQ. Had to be careful where I filmed as there were some bikes there that are still under embargo. Such a great company to work with.

In recent weeks we’ve had a lot of inquiries from customers about whether licences, insurance or mandatory helmets and hi-viz jackets would be coming down the line from government. Currently - and to the best of my knowledge, this is not planning to be changed - all the e-bikes sold by Altitude are classified as bicycles. The speed limit and power assist provided all comply with EU regulations. Our bikes never have throttles that allow them to move without pedalling. Bikes with throttles, or higher power outputs are classified withing the Dept of Transport as ‘e-mopeds’ and Altitude does not sell these types of machines.

As a small business, Altitude is totally dependent on the support of our community of customers. As much as possible, we try to repay that support by offering financial support to a whole range of events across Waterford city and county. This weekend it’s the .chamber.music.fest and this is our second year as a sponsor. While it may not seem like there’s an obvious connection between a bike shop and a classical music event, that’s kind of the point. A city and county with a thriving cultural diversity benefits everyone who lives there. So many events are supported by small businesses in our city and county and that’s only possible when customers suport those small businesses.

We are currently on our way home from which was held in the La Tour Hotel in Milton Keynes. It’s the first ‘in person’ TrekWorld event since Covid, believe it or not and it was great to see all the team from Trek UK again.

As embargo’s are currently still in place we can’t share photos of the new product to come but, as usual, Trek have some pretty amazing bikes coming our way for model year 2027. These bikes begin coming into stock shortly and we’ll be able to share them with you as they arrive.

We got a huge surprise by being awarded the Customer Service Excellence award and the Retail Display award from Trek UK & Ireland GM Jim Poulson and Richard John, Sales Manager for Trek. Thanks to our local Trek manager Conor for taking the photo and to Gareth (extreme left) for being such fun to be around! These awards mean a lot to us and it was great to have David and Jamie on the trip with me as they are the ones doing all the work in the background. Thanks also to Darragh, Adam and Oliwier on the Altitude team for helping us to be the best we can be for our customers and to all our customers for continuing to support us.
