This past week I haven't posted that much. I have been on an extreme decluttering binge. At a certain point I couldn't handle how crowded my home and studio were and I was trying to figure out how I could manage to work without having to move something first or having something fall over as I walk by. I hate to waste things and it had always been hard for me to get rid of things because "what if I might need it some day?"

I recently read a wonderful book - "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up" by . I really like her concept of keeping the things that spark joy in us. I dove in and have so far gotten rid of many, many bags and boxes of clothes, books, and paperwork. I still have more to go. One of the things I realized was how good it can make you feel to get rid of stuff. I thought alot about what direction I wanted to go and what I wanted in my life.

Since I'm having so much fun making jewelry and I want to take the jump and get a torch and actually be able to solder things (and it's not really a good idea to do it in a sawdust laden environment). I thought of moving all of the jewelry making things away from all the woodworking, sawdust and wood storage. Cleaning up allowed me to see new opportunities for space and I made myself a new jewelry making station in the bedroom my girls used to use before they moved out. It's so fun to come into a clean work space.

Can anyone relate? Do you enjoy decluttering?

Are you tired of the same old boring jewelry? Looking for something a little more interesting and creative... something that makes a statement?

I’ve often felt like that when shopping for jewelry in the past. Since I’ve started making my own jewelry I have fun combining wood, metal and stones to create one of a kind pieces with character.

This mahogany, jasper and silver handmade necklace and earrings set is one of my new designs.

Let me know what you think.

The color of the stones in these earrings reminds me of seeing light through the branches of a tree, of being outside under a tree in the summer time. A happy place.

The stone for these earrings was originally going to be for a pendant. It had an unfortunate accident and ended up in two pieces. A little frustrating but I didn't want to waste it.

After I played around a little I came up with these earrings, I'm happy with how they turned out.

I like it when I can take something broken and make it into something new and beautiful. I feel like we all have parts of us inside that are a little broken. It gives me hope that all those broken parts can be transformed into something beautiful as well.

Oak and African Turquoise earrings.

I had fun making these. I think of them as my dancing lady earrings. When I saw the shape of the wood (from a piece of word art that I had cut out) it reminded me of a strapless flowy dress. The turquoise represents the head.

Does anyone else see that or is it just me?

If you've ever thought to yourself...I'm too old to start something new, just take a look at some of these names and achievements.

“Colonel” Harland Sanders
worked a variety of odd jobs throughout his life. He franchised his first Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant at the age of 65, using his $105 Social Security checks to afford driving around to franchise more Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants.

“Grandma” Moses
loved to embroider, but when it became too painful due to arthritis at the age of 78, she took up painting. Today she is remembered as one of America’s great folk artists.

Peter Mark Roget
had an interest in lists and language throughout his life. When he retired at the age of 61, he began working on a book which would organize words by their definitions. The first thesaurus was published in 1852 at the age of 73.

Ray Kroc
worked various jobs including as a pianist and a travelling salesman for a milkshake maker. Then at the age of 52, he met the McDonald brothers and proposed that their restaurant could expand across the United States, catapulting McDonalds to international fame.

These are just a few examples, there are many more.

The neutral coloring of the Maple background with the Mahogany inlay pair beautifully with the Jasper beads. The beauty of these earrings is that they are great for everyday use. They have a natural feel, are light, yet are bold enough to be seen.

For those of you who are interested in the metaphysical properties of the different woods and stone.... Maple wood is thought to have properties and energies that support creation, healing and abundance, while the Mahogany wood supports spiritual growth and healing. Jasper stones are said to bring tranquility and wholeness to your life and to help protect from and absorb negative energies. Something we could all use a little more of in our lives.

I’ve been working on this new jewelry line, combining wood inlay with different shapes and stones. My goal is to produce jewelry that will help you to feel balanced, confident and that will help bring positive energy and vibes into your life.

Recently I was working on some special order jewelry. My customer wanted a combination of wood and stone with inlay.

If you swipe through the pictures, you can see the progression of the work.

After I cut the dowels (using plug cutters) from the different woods, I inlay the different colors of wood into the Maple base. Here you see Mahogany, בזמן האחרון עבדתי תPurple Heart, Padauk, and Walnut.

Next comes cutting out the pieces, and sanding them. The sanding makes a huge difference in how they look.

Then I take the pieces and see how they will fit together before I connect everything.

If you have any questions or would like to order your own special jewelry drop me a line.
