Every letter you read in Hebrew started out as a picture 🕎

Alef was the head of an ox. Bet was a house. Mem was water. Ayin was an eye - and that is still exactly what the word means.

And here is the one that gets me: emet, truth, is built from the first letter of the alphabet, the middle one, and the very last. Truth runs the whole way through. But sheker, a lie, is three letters crowded together at the end - it cannot go the distance.
