We arrived on Aliya 40 years ago, just before Succot. In Sydney, when growing up, we had a large garden and for whatever reason, never had a Succah.
For the first Succot we didn’t really know anyone and we had just rented an apartment. There was a Succah but it was locked. We decided from that year we would always build our own, and we did. For years the boys helped build the Succah. We laughed when My husband tried to say Scach. We schlepped the scach and decorated and entertained and sometimes slept in the Succah. Magical moments.
And now new generations build and decorate and I am just happy to sit and view the stars. And listen to small folk say Savta Barbara ….
חג שמח from Jerusalem my happy place.
