Muga/Moonga silk is one of the rarest silks in the world, found in Assam, where the silkworms feed on native trees that give the fiber its natural golden tone.
It is extremely difficult to weave. The yarn is strong yet uneven, slightly resistant on the loom, and requires a high level of skill, patience, and control at every stage. This is not a fabric that can be rushed or industrialized easily.
What makes Muga exceptional is that its sheen is not added. It exists within the fiber itself. Over time, with handling and wear, it softens further while continuing to hold that quiet, unmistakable glow.
In this post -
Greige Muga is raw, untouched, and naturally golden
2 ply Muga is bleached, softened, and more fluid in drape
The same silk, expressed in two distinct ways
Rare, slow, and deeply tied to its origin, this is a fabric that carries both material and memory.
