A Thousand Splendid Suns - written by Khaled Hosseini
The Kite Runner was one of my absolute favourite books last year and, ever since, I have had a lot of people tell me I need to read A Thousand Splendid Suns. So, FINALLY, it made its way to the top of the TBR pile 🎉
This story is set in war-torn Afghanistan, following Miriam who is sent off at the age of 15 to marry a much older man. We follow Mariam for the next 30 years as she befriends a young woman, Laila, and battles through years of war, loss and abuse.
This truly is a beautiful book which pulls at your heart strings from start to finish. Mariam has a tough life and you cannot help but feel for her. The relationship between Mariam and Laila is really special and definitely a highlight of the book.
Much like The Kite Runner, this is one of those books that will leave an imprint on your soul. It’s not a story I will forget any time soon. If you haven’t read anything by Khaled Hosseini, it is time to start!
