It was little more than a century ago Mahatma Gandhi set his foot in India after his formative years in South Africa. After his brief stay at Rabindranath Tagore’s ashram in Shantiniketan, he led the Champaran and Kheda Satyagraha. This initial stride subsequently snowballed into a nationwide movement marked by his unyielding demeanor which has been etched forever in the history of India’s freedom
movement. Through the spirit of honour and self-reliance he was able to mobilse the country not just towards independence but also towards upliftment and empowerment of the society. His single-purpose approach in the face of adversity, acute self-discipline, humility and undying devotion for his motherland, is what makes him inspiring to our leaders even today. Narendra Damodardas Modi, the first Prime Minister of India-born after independence, is one such leader. An admirer of Mahatma Gandhi, he often quotes Gandhiji in his speeches. The policies introduced by him during his tenure as the Chief Minister of Gujarat and the Prime Minister of India were rooted in the ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi. The schemes and programs launched by Narendra Modi often reflect Gandhian philosophies like Sarvodaya, Swadeshi movement, Socialism, etc. This attempt at writing the book titled Mahatma Gandhi to Modi, is to highlight the ideological similarities between Mahatma Gandhi and Narendra Modi for overall development of society, elimination of poverty and Nationalism.
