๐ธ History of Joti Jot Diwas โ Sri Guru Ram Das Ji
Sri Guru Ram Das Ji, the Fourth Sikh Guru, was born in 1534 at Lahore. He became Guru in 1574, succeeding Sri Guru Amar Das Ji. He devoted his life to Naam Simran, humility, selfless service, equality and compassion.
One of his greatest contributions was the establishment and development of Ramdaspur, which later became Amritsar. In 1577, Guru Ram Das Ji began the excavation of the sacred Amrit Sarovar, around which the Sikh community grew.
Guru Ram Das Ji also composed 638 hymns in 30 ragas, which are included in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. His Bani beautifully emphasizes humility, devotion, love and remembrance of Waheguru.
Before leaving this earthly world, Guru Ram Das Ji appointed his youngest son, Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji, as the Fifth Nanak, continuing the spiritual succession of the Sikh Gurus. He then retired to Goindwal Sahib, where he attained Joti Jot on 1 September 1581.
