WHEN IT COMES TO JEANS, IT’S ALL ABOUT THAT WEIGHT.
Often we come across labels on jeans, the numbers on them refers to the weight of a square yard
of the fabric being used, which directly translates to how heavy, durable and comfortable
the jeans will be overtime.
For jeans, OZ.-(1 OZ=28.4 gms). To determine the weight, fabric 1m is cut and weighed.
Based on the ounce the fabrics are classified into three weight categories.
Light weight: maximum of 12 oz. Light- weights are much comfortable to wear initially but breaks- in over time.
Medium weight: between 12 and 14 oz.
Heavy: above 14 oz. The heaviest weighed fabric known to man is 32oz.
You’d have to stick your legs into a jean that can stand on its own.
Heavier is the weight, heavier are the jeans, nevertheless to say. The medium weighed fabrics
are the most commonly used and they’re relatively stiff. These jeans will develop more
character as they age, due to how the fabric hold its shape over time.
In the end, having enlightened about the OZ a pair of medium weights is a must have in your
closet, be it washed or raw. The fabric will fit well over time and age in a way that’s unique to
the wearer.
