This month at Select, we have a talk by *Winona* (they/she), a Visual Communications Designer and gamer. Titled *Dungeons and Dragons, Feminism and Q***r Joy*, this talk will see Winona introduce Table Top Role-playing Games (TTRPGs) like D&D, how they work, and how they can be a source of fantastical joy for players.

The talk will include a brief history of D&D, how the game started with embedded sexism and exclusion - and how players and systems have become not just inclusive, but q***r-positive over time. Winona will share their journey of playing D&D over the last five years and how Bengaluru has grown as a space for going on heroic adventures and epic quests and embodying exuberant q***r, neurodivergent joy.

This month at Select, we are back with a second edition of our Feminist Town Hall, ‘The Making and Unmaking of a Woman’. This edition of the town hall aims to discuss recent political events — the Trans Bill 2026, the domestic workers protests, delimitation bill — with the lens of how the identities of women are weaponised to suit various political agendas.

The town hall aims to be a tempered discussion of the issues at hand, and is conducted with the intention of building solidarity. This will be an inclusive space with no tolerance for bigotry.

After a two month break, Select talks is back! And to kick things off, we’re really fortunate to have Yashas Shetty from the Indian Sonic Research Organisation - ISRO [] (yeah, we know).

For over a decade, the ISRO has been an artist-run home for experimental music and art that explores the depths of numerous sonic realms, offering residencies and fostering a community that is truly interested and invested in all things sound. From making instruments from what is otherwise dismissed as trash, to creating music programming languages, the ISRO has covered far too many bases for us to even spell out.

In this talk (which might be accompanied with a performance), Yashas will talk about his experience running and the philosphy behind this one of a kind sound research laboratory’

There’s life that’s lived by millions in this country who lie at the tail end of their mortality, despite the endless emphasis on discourse revolving around our *demographic dividend peak*.

This month at Select, we have Aparna, a noted researcher in the field of senior living, who will be taking us through the bumpy landscape of elderly care in this country. Join us to learn about the numerous measures that exist in this country which many of us seldom pay heed to until it’s too late, alongside understanding what it takes to bridge the dissonance between need and have for the lovely people we know living in their golden years.

3:30 pm, this Sunday (21st September)

As always, all are welcome!

Over the course of a year, Arvind Padmanabhan has penned beautiful haikus; musings on his everyday experiences in this lovely city of ours.
That he will be sharing with us a few of his works from his latest collection of poems,
"No Cherry Blossoms in My Haiku,"
alongside elaborating on the motifs that inspired him to pen them.

Great for if you enjoy a good poem or two, been meaning to write a few haikus yourself (this is an interactive session and Arvind will be taking us through some haiku essentials), or you're just keen on seeing the beauty and meaning in the little things around you.
