-- SKIN CARE 101 --
Brief:
Sun Protection is important not just to avoid sunburn, suntan, uneven skin tone, but also to prevent the risk of various forms of Skin cancer that occur due to prolonged Sun Exposure.
Detailed Note:
Did you know that unprotected sun exposure is the No. 1 cause of premature skin ageing? UV radiation, classified as UVA and UVB rays, is part of the light spectrum that reaches the earth from the sun. Both types of radiation damage the skin in different ways. Ultraviolet B (shortwave) rays are responsible for burnt, red skin, while ultraviolet A (longwave) rays can pe*****te deeper into the skin and cause DNA damage.
Sun damage has short and long-term consequences. An immediately visible sign of sun damage is sunburn. The more long-term consequences of unprotected sun exposure are dry, dull and uneven skin tone. Sun damage can also destroy the collagen (a protein that retains the firmness of your skin) and elastin ( the support fibre that allows skin to bounce back) in your skin.
The large misconception that the effects of sun damage are mainly cosmetic, is one of the main reasons why people, especially Indians, who are habituated to sun exposure and are immune, to an extent, to sun damage, have ignored Sun Protection.
But in truth, repeated sunburn and unprotected sun exposure increase the chance of various forms of skin cancer, which is why sun protection is extremely important.
