Very sad to have lost our very first trainer Kannamai Aachi at the ripe old age of 101.

Kannamai Aachi was one of the few original weavers of the Kottan, and the only one willing to teach our craftswomen at the start of Project Kottan in 2000. Although in her seventies, she travelled everyday from her remote village to train the first group of women. Her strict tutelage and her eagerness to teach every design in her repertoire ensured that the art of Kottan making was not lost to future generations.
